BEGI intake issue

Hello Everyone,

I just installed my BEGI Cold Air box with the Amsoil filter and when I went to start the car. It fired up no problem then after about 2 secs it just died. The next time I started it(about 20 secs later) I gave it a little throttle and it stayed at idle @ 750 rpms. I live in Michigan and it is about 15 outside. I was thinking maybe the cold is part of the problem? I have driven on it about a total of 110 miles and there is no CEL. But this morning when I went out to start the car it did the same thing. Any idea as to if I can fix this problem or if I should be worried?

Did you have to remove and reinstall the MAF sensor with that intake? It is very delicate. I hope you did not harm it. Easy to do. Did you reset the ECU by removing the ground cable to the battery and then reconnecting it after the intake install was done? If not, need to do this. If so, it will take up to 50-100 miles of driving for the ECU to "relearn" the mass air flow characteristics of your new, higher flowing intake. This could be made a bit worse by being in cold and thus very much more dense air.

Check all hose connections, especially those between your MAF sensor and the engine, to make sure they are tight and there is no leak. Check all vacuum hoses and connections to your BPV that might have been disturbed in your removal of the old air box and installation of your new intake.

If all is fine, just give it some time for the ECU to adjust. The change in flow is pretty substantial - enough that you will probably see 15-20 whp gain.

okay cool. I didnt re-set the ECU.. which I should have. I had to remove the MAF, but I never touched the actaully little sensor on the inside, only removed the two bolts and bolted it into the new housing. I will do what you said and try again. Thank you

how is the fitment with the box? I havent read much on this intake and have been thinking of switching.

Fitment is not the best I have two of the three bolts in but its a tight fit, so there is no rattle. It looks really nice and clean .

Check that the MAF sensor is plugged in and installed correctly. If that is OK, then I would start looking around the area that you were working for disconnected vacuum lines. I would almost bet money that it's the MAF sensor, though...very common mistake (I've forgotten to plug it back in a couple of times myself)

Make sure the o-ring is seated properly for the MAF. It can all sorts of hell if is doesnt seat.
