Bay Area/San Fran members, please read.

Hey, I was wondering if someone could help me.

I was just laid off yesterday and I figured, I might as well try start anew since I am young.

I want to try something new and be independent and move from Hawaii to California in search of a new job.

How is the job market up there and rent prices? I am assuming cost of living is high up there like Hawaii.

I am 23, have 2 AA degrees (1 liberal and 1 in web design), does photography for fun, and shoots wedding videos as a side job.

If anyone could point me in the right direction, that would be great.

Job market is ok, kinda need to know someone to get a decent job. Try looking on careerbuilder.com and Dice.com. Post on MOCCFORUMS as well. I would have given you are tour and a place to stay while on the hunt but im out of the country for awhile. I'm actually in Iraq right now. Have you been to the bay? I love it, born and raised in the Bay. Right now i would say it cost between 1000-1500 for a one bedroom, depends where you stay. I would look on the west bay near the silicon valley since you have a degree in web design. If you want you can shoot me your resume and i can give it to my wife. She works at Robert Half and she can forward it up to the Tech side. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions or need any help. I have family on Maui, i actually lived there when i was 1 but moved back to the bay when i was 2. Hit me up.

Whao, thanks for the reply! This is going to sound VERY stupid, but I have never been to San Francisco, but a lot of people and coworkers have told me it is like a second Hawaii and if I want to get into any type of art, that is the place to be. Even if I moved and hated it, at least I can say I did it and tried.

I will work on finding a place first, but cost of living sounds just as much as Hawaii... Ack. Thanks for the help and I will PM you later if needed.

cost of living in CA is expensive and SF itself is very high. Nor Cal is more expensive than So Cal. but with your background and expertise (liberal/arts) Nor Cal sounds more for you. if you want more input go to www.moccforums.com and you can get more info from all cali people, north and south. good luck bro!

Damn Bro, your moving to San Fran too..Im leaving Honolulu in Feb and taking my MS6 along for the ride..lol.. Never been out there but hey, I was never in Hawaii till just 10 months ago anyway, I guess..Anyways man hit me up bro..Ill be out there.

I dont have a whole lot of experience in the job market, let alone in the bay area....but the prices for housing are starting to be cheaper over in the valley rather than the bay, but the commute is a b**** cause we have lots of traffic

Sad to say, Hawaii has become so undesirable. It's not worth living here anymore. Violent crime is starting to become normal here. *SIGH*
