basics of driving a manual

While there's nothing wrong with coasting, it's always better to be in gear - for safety (as in PA) and other reasons (accelleration on demand - "quick shifters" be damned).

hey, the msp is my 1st stick...what is heel-toe shifting??

When you are braking(and needing to downshift) you use your right foot to brake while simultaneously touching the throttle with that foot to keep the rpms up when you eventually shift into the lower gear. it allows you to stay in the powerband maxamizing acceleration coming out of a turn.

OHHHHH!!! I'm beggining to see my problem now! See, I get in trouble fomr these guys with little blue lights on top of their cars because I usually just leave the car in gear and ACCELERATE around turns. No, not out of turns. I'm tlaking about 50 feet before I actually hit the turn. But you guys use the brake? Maybe I should try that....

Seriously though, I always leave mine in gear around turns and in neutral at stoplights, but I hate using my brakes and so I just downshift whenever I'm goin down a big hill.

I know from experience... the more you have your car in gear, the better off you are... Period
