basic oil change question

Hey all, I just moved to a small city that has no mazda dealership so I am wondering when it is time to change my oil, if I can use any oil filter on my P5 or is the mazda one really reccommended?

If I have to buy a non mazda one, any reccomendations and is there anything else I need to buy with it (other than oil of course). Didn't a washer come with the mazda filter?

Thanks!

A fram, purolator, or any other filter will work on a car, doesn't have to be a mazda one. All places that change oil have washers and filters, so you don't have to worry about that one. I used to have a p5 and never had a problem with using my local oil change place!

get mobil extended performance
and its a change every 15,000mi, and get the Mobil Extended Performance oil filter.
gona cost u bout 40 bucks but saves u about 5 trips to get regular oil changes and filters.
i change every 10,000 miles but yea. hope that helps u out

Use the Mazda 626 with V6 filter - it is bigger/holds more oil. I use the Fram Tough Guard because it has the anti-drain back feature.

No washer for the filter.

Easy job to do yourself the second time around. Use the money you save from paying the dealership for mods, eh?

I like that idea, but is it safe using a v6 filter to hold more oil?

Yea its fine, lots of people do it and i've been meaning to. All it does is slightly increase the system's capacity so you can put in the full 4 instead the standard 3.75.

(werd) I always forget about this when I change the oil. I remembered this past time lol. Its so much easier just dumping a full 4 qts in and not having a bunch of left over oil containers left lol although i was condesing them all

PH6607 is the standard size in fram for the car.

the oil change is a breeze. once you do it yourself I dont think youll ever taje the chance of having a place do it again.

[rolling eyes] Just plain old oil changed regularly will yield designed reliability. My engine top end at 170K+ miles is very clean. My oil after 3K miles after a change is still quite clean/clear.
