Balance Shaft Removal Kit

Don't need one for me, i've had it on since new years. I think Walter will be at the next track day i'm going to, was wondering if i should try to get a few from him when he comes down, or it's still ok to order through his site?

Also, i'd like to see the first person that makes this themselves. it's easy to say "it's only..." but i doubt we'll see many make this "simple" kit themselves.

Marcy will still make the bsd kit, but is only going to be supporting the focus crowd. You can still put it in your 3, but don't expect any support from marcy.

just for reference, Cosworth just released their new catalog (if anyone cares) and lists the BS delete kit for the 2.3 as well now. part # KK3484

(nana) Cool... One less thing for me to do.
Whelp, just jinxed my ass... Wife traded my 3i for a 6, now I'm driving her 3S with a 2.3, so put me back on the list.. LOL! I'm going to drop the pan today and fab up my own kit. I wonder if the A/C belt can be rolled off without damaging it? I know Mazda says to cut it, but I'm gonna try rolling it.

Someone told me it can be re used. They said the ac compressor can be unscrewed and moved slightly creating enough slack for the belt to slide off. Keep me posted cuz I am just nervous to remove mine, have the kit but cant get the balls to do it. anyone in the salt lake area want to help?

also heard stories of people ruining the edges of the pully trying to pry the belts off. If there is a *Legit* and or more *Logical* way to safely remove the belt then more power to you.

I would think that if you remove the compressor with the belt still on, you should be able to snake the compressor out from under the belt, and then re-install it the same way.

Depends on how much slack you have in the A/C lines, though.

Is this mod really worth the trouble considering the fibration it will cause.
Doe's anyone have dyno test (or means of testing) these mods. I would love
to see a 3 in Import Tuner in the section where they test parts and post
dyno results.

this mod is more like a lightened flywheel, not too noticable on a dyno. it's acceleration where you feel it as there is less "resistance" to get it spinning. so real point in a dyno for it. it's $30 and a couple hours work, can't really beat if if you like playing with your car. If you just want mods that will add to that max dyno HP #, then you don't need this one.

I'm reviewing the instructions to remove the oil pan. It says to remove the front engine cover. Is that hard to do, or do they make it look harder than it actually is?

haven't done it on the 3, but on the 6 it was really damn easy. didn't have to remove the front cover (on passenger side), just the 4-5 small bolts along the bottom edge.

if u just unbolt the ac compressor u can slide the belt right off.

It is still not that easy. I have done it both ways..cutting the belt and removing the A/C compressor.
Putting the new belt back on with the tools supplied by Mazda is not that easy to do. And trying to put the belt and A/C compressor on is just as hard if not harder to do.

ive done it twice now and i find it pretty dern easy if you have 2 people to reinstall the belt/compressor. (one to push it in place, the other to screw a bolt in to keep it there and get the rest in)
