so i just got done replacing my heater hose a day ago since it was leaking coolant badly, it drove fine for a day and now it randomly starts to overheat, the temp gauge would go to 3/4's and stay there then when I would slow down to check it out it would go back to normal. nothing is leaking under my car whatsoever. coolant isnt bubbing. i noticed a cpl weeks ago everytime I would drive my car a tad more spirited i would see the remains of oil on top of my valve cover obviously from the oil cap. so my question: CAN A BAD OIL CAP CAUSE IT TO OVERHEAT? honestly im just fed up with my car and really close to selling it for a miata...

NO, it's an oil cap.......Secondly, since you replaced your coolant line that's were your problem started. You probably got an air bubble in your coolant system when you refilled it. If that is true I would empty the rad back out and start the car. While the car is running add all your coolant back in. That should clear that bubble for ya.

Make sure that your fans are working.or thermostat ,etc. But like mentioned above,it could have air in the system.

that was my other thought. fans seem to be working. is there any kind of bleeder valve on our cars? and also could i just run the car with the rad cap off to allow it to "burp", would that do the trick or should i just drain and refill the whole thing like you said?
