Sorry folks, I got a look at the 2008 Mazda 6 specs this morning and no changes other than the Wagon is discontinued. Mazda has really been hush-hush on this new model. The last I heard the new 6 was going into production in September and now it appears they will do another run of the existing car starting July production.

On the bright side I think we will see a early release on the 2009's and they should have all the bugs worked out. I want to replace our 2006 Mazda 3 GT with a new 6 next summer when the lease is up, hopefully its out by then. (sad2)

Wow!!!

No comments? This is a major disapointment for me that they've pushed the new 6 back again.

I think it's because we're for the most part all fond of the current vehicle. The 6 and the 3 are still the best value for money in their class, even while approaching the ending of their cycles. For example the 6's 3-4 year old chassis is still better (as in more sporty) than the new Altima sedan, better handling, slightly quicker (MS6). Overall Mazda's line up has been amazing the last few years (IMHO).

I'm not happy that they're killing the wagon.

Anyone know the fate of the MS6? Are there even going to be '08 MS6's?

yeah, I really don't care either. I got the car I wanted! And if the news is true, and the new 6 is going to be another boat like the accord or camry.....then I don't want it

with the 265 hp v6 you would.:)

I just hope the fit and finish of the 2009 accord wont be like it's predecessor. The current models lack in every corner of fit and finish and I'm 100% sure it has to do with the fact that they are assembled by ford in the USA.

So will they continue the speed6 into 2008 or are they done building them?

Opps, I guess that was already asked. My guess is they are done based on poor sales and the fact the press has been oogling over the MS3.

I read on either motor trend's or car and drivers site that the speed 6 is gone after 07, but might return for another two year run with the new model in 09 or 10

I spoke with my contacts this morning. The main reason for pushing the new 6 back is supply issues. They didn't want to launch the car this fall in limited quantities. We will see the new 6 on dealers lots in March. He has seen and sat in the new model. He said the interior is awesome, huge step up from current model. He wasn't allowed to drive it so time will tell if the current 6 owners will like the drive. I tried to get him to tell me if the new 6 will go straight to the 3.7L thats going on the 08 CX-9 or if they would start with the 3.5L. But he just smiled and said I don't know. Bastard...lol!!!

I'm liking the new capabilities of the new 3.5L and 3.7L V6's. 250 Bhp I believe with much room to build on. I can imagine a 300+ Bhp with a super charged V6. They even said the new durtecs can be twin-turbo'ed but in reality the price of a car like that would be at least 30k+. If Mazda can offer a 6/s with 240-260 bhp around the 24-26k range, I'll be sold.

The 3.5L is 263 HP. The 3.7L is 278 HP. It will get one of these engines.

I highly doubt they will put the 3.7L in the Mazda6, at least not right off the bat. The 3.5L is a big enough jump over the current 212HP V6 and I doubt the 3.7L will display desireable gas mileage results in the 6.

You are probably right, but one can hope!!
I'd give up 1-2 MPG for the bigger engine.

actually, I'm thinking my next car might be a lot smaller. Something better on gas and probably not a Mazda.

Man, what's with all the cars getting bigger engines. I'd be happier if there were a 2.5L V6 putting out 200-210 hp on a rear wheel drive platform. All that power and it's still front wheel drive. Even with a possible all wheel drive system, I'm not hot about Mazda's part time AWD.

zero complaints about the AWD in my MS6. It was exactly what I was looking for. I didn't want a full time AWD gas guzzler. I just needed something that would help me with the winters, stop torque steer, and a little extra grip in the wet and that is exactly what it does and does well.

But, with the gas prices still rising, I have to wonder car makers sanity with all of these high horsepower cars. I'm getting sick of giving my money away to the oil companies. I love my MS6, best car I've ever owned, not so much as a rattle in it. I'll keep it as long as gas prices don't go too high, otherwise, it's a small car again for me. you got to live life al little and not let a car conmsume everything
