Backup camera power from reverse light

:
CX-5, fwd auto
Hi,

I am not technically advanced, but wondering instead of pulling a wire from backup camera through the hatch into the cargo light area to connect this to the power source, If I had a backup camera with a transmitter, can I just mount the transmitter inside the hatch behind the licence plate and splice into the reverse light wire located in the hatch tailgate? This way I do not need to pull wire all the way through. Does this work?

I have Base model 2013 cx-5. what colored wire should I splice into? Is there any way to avoid splicing into existing wire?

Anyone can help will be great.

Thank you

Thank you so much, TreyP. i did see this thread, but wonderred, why do you need to wire all the way around. if I had a wireless backup camera, (Without routing all the way around), can the bakup camera and transmitter get power from the reverse light wires inside the tailgate/

Thank you

The point I was making was that yes, you can get the power from the reverse lights, and the thread shows you exactly where to tap in.

Good luck!

Thank you so much Treyp. So I must get power from reverse light on the left side panel near cargo light? No place to get from the reverse lights located within the hatch?

I'm not sure what you mean exactly...the reverse lights are behind the hatch interior panels. The hatch is open in these pictures.

Hi,
The reverse light, what I mean is the white backup lights located in the hatch. (the backup lights that come on when you place a gear in reverse)
Thank you

Yes, we are talking about the same thing. I guess you were asking if there is a way to get to it without taking the panels off? If so the answer is no.
