I picked up a esky backup camera and was very disappointed to see that it doesnt work with my 2013 cx5. Do I really need to get a special 6vdc camera?

Where can I find the plug/harness that connects to the back of the radio?

You can get from Ebay a very cheap 12V to 6V converter.
I have one of those, that have a digital display.

You don't need a converter, you just need to wire the camera up to a different power source in the car. (like the accessory wire behind the radio)

I think I have this sorted out.

Most if not all aftermarket backup cameras operate on 12VDC.

The factory radio puts out 6VDC, for use with the OEM backup camera.

The radio needs to see a video signal at startup to know that it has a camera installed.

Reverse is sensed by canbus, tapping into reverse lights wont work as the camera won't be on at startup ,and as a result, no signal at startup.

As mentioned, the signal + and shielding need to be on the factory plug. The power and ground to camera need to be a switched ignition source. The stereo will take care of the rest. Im gonna try tapping into the rear power outlet.

Thanks for the replies
