Ok so I am backfiring constantly and I dont know why not to mention my car idles really low and tends to stall at lights. Now I am under the impression that it is my HKS SSQV BOV causing this. I have the new style with no adjustment screw on the back and it is currently located on the coldside pipe but is going to be moved this weekend to the hotside pipe and hopefully this will help with my stalling and low idle but I still dont understand the constant backfiring. If you can see I have a list of all my mods below so any insight on this problem would be of great value to me. I also have a few exhaust leaks at the moment located around my exhaust mani and s-pipe. Also note I am currently recirculating and still having this issue. Any info would be greatly apprecaited.

yeah, I have the same exhaust and it always backfires if I get on it just a little and my car idles really really low but always seems to catch itself before stalling. The bov may be the reason for the stalling, but the backfire is prolly just the exhaust, which I dont know why it does it.

with no cat, you can easily get backfires. The cat is there to burn off any excessive fuel, and control emissions.

If you got a vacuum leak, that can be a cause of your low idle. Easiest way to find a vac leak, get some brake cleen and spay down your vac lines. When you hear the RPM's pick up, you found the leak. You can also spay down the BOV to see if its not closing all the way.

If your vewnting to Atmosphere, that can be the cause of the stalling at lights. When you come off throttle, the air that the MAF registered is not being fed to the engine but dumped out. The PCM does not know this, and will add the fuel for the air and cause you to stall. This could also be an issue with your backfireing.

As far as the location fo the BOV, you want it as close to the Throttle body as possible, to allow the most ammount of air to escape or be recirced back to the intake pipe. This keeps Turbo surge to a minimum. :D

I had the same problem, is was my idle air control valve, not the actual valve but the harness that connects to it became frayed. once the car was warmed up it would stall out. All i did was splice the wires back together and it ran fine. I hace the perrin fmic with hks ssqv and Apex 3'in exhasut system including catless dp.

Vibrant has a high flow cat, unless he had his removed, I get occasional backfires, but nothing serious, and I have the same exhaust plus a 2.5 " s-pipe.

your hks ssq is causing it, a bunch of people remedy this problem by relocating their maf....i am almost one hundred percent positive that it is the location like boostisgood said.

where is this Located it wont hurt for me to check it.

here are some pics of my set Up. as Velocifero said I have the same exhaust as him and I have not taken out my cat I also have the same s-pipe as him. My friend Sam who you guys may know as JDM SAM told me to move the bov to the hot side pipe because it lets out more air and makes compressor surge none exsistant but the BOV will still be after the MAF. Like I said I do have a exhaust leak at the exhaust mani and s-pipe to turbo. any way here are the pictures.

this is a link to my pictures of the FMIC itself

So is the stalling. If you are recircing than the BOV isn't causing the stalling cause no air is getting out. But those exhaust leaks will mess with your O2 sensor in the manifold reading.

Come out to Skoots tonight and we'll try to figure it out.

Its right buy the throttle body, should be a brown harness, the iac itself only has two screws that hold it to the intake manifold. You could also try cleaning your egr valve, that sometimes helps.

adam we clesned yours the other day, remember it's the plunger looking thing and yours looked like a chunk of coal... you bought the little red hex head kit...

Hey, Adam when is it backfiring? After the bov vents and your in low rpm high load? We can prob tune around that. It does sound like you have a pressure leak though. If you have access to an air compressor you can do a pressure test with that.

I think you may be right Sam and I think I know where it may be as well. I just have to take the front bumper off to fix it if that is infact where I think it is.
