Back end squeak...

Wondering why a car that is only a few years old has a fairly ridiculous creak coming from the rear whenever the chassis is even slightly torqued?

i.e. turning right onto a steep incline causes the noise.


It also creaks to a lesser degree when I go over speed bumps.



In my T/A, this happened when the rear bushings were worn out. Would this most likely be something similar?



My fear is that the car was in a collision before I bought it. The salesman at the dealership said it was not, but I didn't demand a Carfax from him, so even if he lied, I have no one to blame but myself if that is the case.

Is the car dropped? If it is, the install may not have been done properly (i.e. loose bolts)

If not, I'd have a buddy put weight on the car to make it bounce up and down while you have your ear as close to the noise as possible until you find it.

BTW... NEVER trust a car salesman. He'll tell you whatever needs to be told to sell that car. I'm sure he had more cars on the lot... how can he possibly remember the history of every car in his inventory? It's impossible. Get the Carfax!

I've had my car for about 13 months and pushing 9,000 miles, and I've noticed an intermittent rear squeak that's developed since the temps have warmed up. Didn't happen last summer. I thought it was the bushings on my Hotchkis RSB, but I re-greased them and I still squeak over low-speed (parking lot) turns and speed bumps. Now I'm thinking it might be the springs twisting in their perches. Next time I have the rear wheels off, I'll spray them up with lithium grease and see if that's that.

No, it isn't dropped. I'll have someone help me out with that on Friday. I drive about 4 miles per day, so shouldn't be able to do too much damage between now and then...

As for the carfax, yeah, I dropped the ball. Need to bug my Chrysler car-salesman friend to get me a free carfax.

I'd go synthetic - something like Synthetic Multi-Purpose Spray Grease from Amsoil. I had a Camry with this problem once. It was 9 years old at the time but spray lube did the trick permanently. That is until a totally hammered it into the back of another Camry at about 40mph standing on the brakes, folding the hood up to the windshield and moving the battery from in front of the driver's wheel all the way to the firewall. I was sore for days. It had a very quiet suspension after that.

Check your rear sway bar endlinks. The bolts have been known to loosen up causing the end links to go out of spec. I checked mine one time and the bolts were loose by a few full turns. Once they were tight, the creaking a clunking went away!

I have the same problems last 2 weeks ago. I finally check it out last weekend, I have a Cobb aftermarket rear sways. I saw one of the endlink bolts are alittle bit loose. And one side of the bushings are all dried up. I bought a lithium poly grease and re grease all the bushings and re-tighten the bolts on the end links. Problem solved!
