AWR Mount for DD?

I'm thinking of adding the AWR engine mount to my list of small things to do to the 2, but I am curious as to the feel for daily driving. Are the vibrations really noticeable? Say if I had a random person sit in my car would they be like "why does your car shake"? I already DD/commute 100 miles a day with H&R springs so I can take a little discomfort if the rewards are worth it.

The vibrations would be noticeable in the car. I am ok myself with some vibrations so I did not find it uncomfortable at all, it was just noticeable.

Derrick,

Do you think that a damper would help? In theory it makes sense. In parctice, how would you profile the damping curves? I think that the OEM motor-mounts are a bit weak. An engine damper may do a better job than a higher durometer mount. What do you think?

I just put this mount in, and yes there is more vibration for sure, especially at startup. It's calmed down an bit the past few days, but the clutch feel and throttle response has been improved dramatically. I'm really surprised by how much better it feels, I don't mind the vibration or extra noise. It is noisier too, as now the cabin acts like a big resonator for the motor, but it has that much more racecar sound now! Haha.

I did the 70 (soft) mount -- really glad I didn't opt for medium!

I'm thinking about getting one as well. I have a windo-weld filled one right now and it worked great but last night I spun my tires and had a bunch of wheel hop just like I did with the stock mount, so I think I'll just bite the bullet and pay for a good mount.

This has me really tempted to throw on the AWR mount and return my muffler back to stock. I put on a cheapo ebay unit so I could hear what the car was doing, it was eerily quiet to me in stock form and the extra noise really helps driveability with that rubber band clutch.

I went ahead and ordered one (70 durometer), I'll let everyone know how I like it once I run it a few hundred miles.

I've had the AWR 95a mount in my car for at least 4000 km now, and I love it. I'm used to very tight, high vibration, stiff cars, so this mount gave me no surprise. Definitely helped driveability (i.e. Heel/Toe downshifting, starting from a stop, throttle response a bit), but a warning, this mount has quite a bit of vibrations for the normal person. With my exhaust, and this mount, it's kind of hard to hear anyone talk whilst I'm driving. I love the thing though!!

For those that added this after upgrading the exhaust(to a RB, CS, or other quiet-ish setup)....did it make the cabin much louder?

First impressions after 75 miles. OH MY GOSH THE VIBRATION! Very loud and harsh between 1000-1500 rpm, but the rest of the time it isn't bad at all. The shifting and clutch feel are 300% better though, so it's almost worth it. I'm going to re-torque the bolts so they are a little less tight and give it a couple hundred miles to break in better and I'll report back.

I have RB exhaust and a CS intake and the mount (70 durometer) doesn't make any more engine noise, just a lot of racket from the interior parts rattling and such.

to the OP, if you are even remotely concerned about vibration for a DD I would not do this mod. I just installed the 70 durometer in my car, and honestly the vibrations are pretty substantial compared to stock. Granted it is only at lower rpm... the problem is that is where you will spend the majority of your time if you dd your car like a sane person. From a drivers stand point this thing is absolutely awesome clutch engagement is drastically improved along with gear selection while driving. But do not expect "minor" vibration, its a pretty big change.

I am curious if anyone who has had this in for a few thousand miles have had rattles start to appear?

awesome, gotta love mazda build quality! That was one of my only fears of using this mount long term. I can deal with the vibrations (mostly because driving is so drastically improved) but if I end up with a car that rattles like a tin can full of nuts and bolts im gonna go nuts... Thankfully installation is so freaking easy anyone could just bring it with them and swap it at the track/autox when you get there and again when you go home if the vibes are a serious concern.

I wish someone would make a quality engine torque damper as an alternative to this you, would probably end up with very similar benefits minus 100% of the vibration.

or at least some motor mount inserts like you can buy for the Mazda 3.

CORKSPORT!!! :D

I've used mine for a few thousand, and no rattles.

Update:

This is to Inform everyone.. with AWR's stiffest dog-bone mount (95a), after around 10k k/m (give or take), I've finally got an odd squeaking noise coming from somewhere around my Gauge Bezel. Doesn't bother me too much.. I'd rather have the performance than comfort, but this is so everyone is aware. I'm sure the softer one's won't have the same effect as mine has had on my car.

I have the softer awr mount and my gauge cluster hood and a pillars started rattling and squeaking after about 6 hours after in install. Both were remedied with felt/foam but I agree the performance is well worth the annoyance. but if your the type to want a silent rattle free car just the low rpm vibes will probably drive you bonkers
