AWR Motor Mounts (Dont use front and rear for everyday driving)

I took the time and effort to install the rear motor mount today. The stiffness is incredible but the vibration is going to kill me for everyday driving. You hit the gas and the car goes! No hesitation. But S**T, its like riding in a tank, everything shakes and jumps around. Since the front is cake to install and remove I will use a combination for everyday driving and both for the track. The rear is there for good! It was hell!

I dont know, I have both motor mounts and drive everyday its liveable for me. vibrations isnt that bad. actually reminds me alot of our old 302 '67 mustang that I loved. my kid hasnt complained yet.

Maybe I am just not use to it yet. I will try it for another few weeks or so and maybe they will soften a little. Cute kid!

at first it was a little rough for me, but I got use to it. and thanks for the cute kid comment. to bad he isnt like that all the time

What process did you use to get the rear mount in there. I have put on the front in like 10 mins or less but I still havent figured which way to attack the rear. And to say the mounts are stiff they are, the factory frount mount is ridiculous you can bend it completely back with your hand I dont know why they put that like that, its bad for tranny if you take off hard cause motor rocks and tranny seals can break.

I replaced the rear while I was changing the clutch and flywheel. So in my case the tranny was out of the way and that made it easier. I also had to cut off a stud on the firewall which was used to hold the engine harness out of the way and used zip ties to secure it in another location, I almost gave up.

Hey, Wshade how much of a difference have you noticed in your launch since you put in your motor mounts.....do you encounter any slip anymore if you launch hard, or does it slip a little then catch without all the bouncing. Or if you excellerate from a stop to take a turn does it slip. Just curious, cuz I am debating on these two options myself....either the lsd or the motormounts. How bad are the vibrations....My car is stiffer then before due to the Eibachs...so if I put in the motormounts, would it feel like a gocart on a road riddled with potholes.

Launching the car is more solid with a lot of the wheel hop gone. I will still invest in the LSD because wheel spin with the turbo is unavoidable. With the stock clutch I would also incounter slippage but not after the ACT, it holds. The motor mounts do increase throttle response but how much, I dont know since the lighter flywheel does the same thing. Honestly after driving with this set up for a few days now it is not all that bad. You will notice a big difference but it is liveable. Most of the vibration you feel is through the pedals and also more resonance through the cabin.

Statement Officially Retracted!

Its been 3 weeks since the motor mount install and I take back what I said earlier. Maybe I am just use to the additional vibration or the mounts have softened up a little. I highly recommend the double swap, especially if you are modded:cool:

Do those of us with an Auto Tranny who will be putting in a turbo have anything to gain from installing these?

Might want to get in on Mitch's group buy as I plan on turboing my car sometime this year, hopefully this summer.

just to add a little to the vibration isnt bad side. My wife rode in my car this weekend, the first time since I have put the motor mounts in and she didnt say anything at all about the vibration.

The factory mounts are really soft rubber. The AWR are a harder polyurethane compound. The factory mounts absorb the vibration. Due to the AWR being harder you gain rigidity and eliminate drivetrain backlash, which is a very good thing, but the motor vibration is transfered to the interior. But as I said a little earlier the positives outweigh the negatives.

"the motor vibration is transfered to the interior"
That is the thing for me that draws me back from making the plunge to buy. Should I save up for the MSP LSD or buy the AWR....I know....get em both..:D my car is stiff enough with my Eibachs, so if I put the AWR's in...I am going to be in rattle city. Just my exhaust has caused my rear speaker housing(plastic surrounding the speakers) to humm oh so slightly, everytime I downshift. So this is a very tough call....for me(scratch)...got to think long term....how much vibration abuse can our cars take with rigidity??

Methinks KARTBOY should make some motor mount inserts. :-)

Rattling is a big PITA tho. The #1 thing i hate about my car. Rattles. We really need a way to deaden the sounds of the rattles or something. Little rattles in the door...on the rear deck...the glove box...they all drive me nuts. I'd pay a lot to be rid of them.

Okay, this is bringing up an old post, but you guys seem to be the experts on this. Since installing both mounts how would you say yours has settled in to this point? I just put my rear mount in yesterday in addition to the front mount and the vibration was a little more then I expected it would be, especially after the added vibration from the front mount being surprisingly little.

Thoughts on it softening up?

Also for the added noise, I plan on dynamating my doors trunk, etc... Do you think there would be anything to gain from dynamating anything else in the car in terms of cutting down on the noise/vibrations from the motor mounts?
