Awesome Motorsports Pictures & Videos

Ha! :) We recently acquired the Miata, and a rollbar is something I've considered. For the events I've participated in thus far, it wasn't a requirement.

Trust me, there are cones! They're just beyond the left and right extremeties of the photo... Conveniently.

Im to lazy to check if there is a video thread, so sorry but here it is anyway

First lap was good but the second lap I got nervous with a vette ever so often showing up in my rear view mirror. Then the battery's' went on the GoPro(wedge)

but nice vid... i really want to do that nows....(wiggle)

Up in the Midwest they have what they call "high speed autocrosses". Kind of an oxymoron if you ask me. My friend runs with them in Wisconsin. You should see the mad-tyt3 courses they pull out on the oval tracks!

cones!!!!!!!!!!!!!(mj) I was told by many that you could never get on a track with a open top with out a bar and arm restraints. just this last year midwest sports car council allowed miata to screw there hard tops down and get away with not having to do that stuff.

enough talk more picys.. this year with the new harnes, bar, and brake ducts at turn one blackhawk

man that thing looks like it sticks like glue! hows your season going??

This season has given me some problems. I have been running pretty well considering the car is not complete for the class. I have a few second places and third places (classes have been 8 to 10 people) with my lowest finish a 4th. This past weekend was definitely not good. I broke my transmission (sounds like teeth from third gear are rattling around in the case). Deciding right now whether to pull just the transmission and rebuild or pull the engine and put in forged rods and pistons at the same time. I think the transmission went mostly because it had 110,000 miles on it and this is the first time the car has ever broken where I've lost track time so I consider it just part of the game that happens to everyone at some point. The car has shown that I have the potential to be a few seconds faster at nationals so I'm still excited about how I will be able to finish out the season.

That picture is awesome. Always cool when you get a shot of the tires being worked.

Sorry to hear about the transmission, hopefully the rest of the car stays together for the rest of the season.

If they're even you may want a little more. It's perfectly acceptable and many people say you should be 10deg hotter on the very inside of the tire, being FWD with camber you're prone to working the inside more than the rest of the tire, thus the higher temps.

FWIW, on my car I run 2.8deg neg and the the temps usually read something like 126-115-115 with an infrared pyrometer. I settled on 2.8 as this was where the car not only felt best, but produced the least most neutral handling with the most even tire temps. Granted my setup is with AutoCross in mind, however I've found that it translates very good to track days, providing the same temperature ranges.

How much camber do you have?

I have about -2.7* camber in the front and -1.2* in the rear. This gave me the best results last year. It provides good cornering while keeping the tire as straight up as possible for reduced straightline drag and best forward grip. MidOhio (where our championships are) has a lot of straights where acceleration and speed are important so it is a trade-off between the ultimate grip of more camber to straight line speed and more acceleration at corner exit of slightly reduced camber. There are already a few corners where my car pushes when it starts to boost and I would lose more time by increasing the camber.

Hope that makes sense. My car was set-up for 225-45-15s and the tires in the picture are 215-45-17s so it may not be ideal for them. I will have 235-40-17s on it next month so I may wind up with different settings for them.

Ah, I see. Good to know you've tested the setup...too many people don't do that...

Another question...what do you have your toe settings at?
