awd mazdaspeed protege

i have read about people trying it, considering it, and not doing it. i'm either about to do an awd swap, or an ls3 rwd conversion. i really want an awd though. i think it would be a lot of fun, and im not looking to build a lot of power, only up to about 250 horsepower. i dont know of a mazdaspeed that has been swapped , and to my knowledge, this would be a first. i know the p5 had an awd variant and my question is, can you swap out the trans and hubs and stuff in a diff. and some axles and roll on, or would it be a little more complicated? have any of you considered and researched extensively just how feasible an awd swap would be? any insight would be helpful. thanks

From the last I looked into it, the whole floor section is different ie: tunnel for the driveshaft to the rear diff and the area where the diff is as well

change out the floor pans. or just modify them. does anyone know if these said transmitions are stronger?

All I have heard about the AWD system is that it's not very strong and can't handle too much power. Considering how difficult it would be to get parts, it's probably not worth it.

an awd system is what u make of it. yah, a stock p5 awd setup may be somewhat weak, but who says u cant put parts from other setups on there to beaf it up?

I agree but it would be impossible to find any aftermarket parts that would strengthen the transmission and diffs. If he had unlimited money and was able to get a company to make him so custom stuff to beef it up, that would be a different story and a ******* awesome one at that.

I think most of us already know that the MSP wasn't meant for big HP...so really there isn't a need for AWD.

YOUR MSP wanst meant for big power. Mine on the other hand was made for huge power..... I mean Im putting down like 230 right now.......

haha I kid I kid.

yeah at first i thought they were fwd, then one day i went to a car dealer that had a ms3, they said it was AWD on the sticker, now i did my research and found out that they are only fwd, i made a mistake when i posted, so i corrected it to just the speed6

If it were financially feasible, I'd be ALL about doing this, and it has NOTHING to do with power. I LOVE all wheel drive. I miss my mom's 2.2l impreza so much that even though its beat to s*** I may drive it this winter..

I would do it because all wheel drive is basically awesome for... ANYTHING. not just about putting big power on the ground.

True, though owners of a car like this usually care more about putting power to the ground. All I was talking about is the money to do it isn't really worth it IMO. I do love this car and more power to Focus for doing this, but it's all about love for the platform otherwise people would take the easy way out and buy a scooby.

again, I disagree. if you bought a protege to "put power to the ground"....

well, frankly, you're retarded.

You do realize it was Mazda that attempted to put power to the ground with a protege by slapping on a turbo kit and some other goodies. I think you just like disagreeing with me, but oh well.
