Is it still possible to convert it? lets say, using some subaru parts or something?
anything is possible with enough money. it'd be cheaper to just buy the subaru

maybe it could be done with the 323 GTX parts. basically i want to convert it so i can rally it. and ive yet to see a mp5 on anything but asphalt :[

The gas tank is the same as 323GTX as is some of the rear end parts.

That's the way they should be. AWD!

If you have the right parts, that fits, yes it's able to be converted without TOO MUCH hassle. I mean, the "tunnel" where your ehaust hangs through is where the driveshaft is suppose to be. But, you'd have to get a custom exhaust made or get the jdm exhaust. And I believe the gas tank would have to be swapped. I'm not sure on the exact details on the whole idea. But I do know it has been mentioned quite alot in these here forums. search it up. Or ask The Man, not only does he know about our us market proteges but the Japanese ones as well.

Or...
You could always take a trip to japan and ask a sport20 owner for a swap in parts. They're always looking to be more US-like. Just hope, for your sake, they want their cars to be more us-like by being FF. :)

the problem with the AWD system in the japanese protege is that it only came in AUTOMATIC. Someone was looking at doing a conversion. There's a thread on here title "Getting the wheels turning" or something like that. I think the dude abandoned the idea due to cost. you can rally FWD

That's not quite true, it also came with the G25MX-R transmission which is 4X4

this i did not know. can it hold power?

Gearset is a little harder, will it hold more power, I don't know. What I do know about these transmission is that the front diff breaks the spider gears very easily with increased power.

Alternative: There are a handful of companies that make a front diff for this box, but be prepared to pay upwards of $4000 for the diff.
