for the past couple of weeks ive had a problem where when i shift from park to reverse this deep loud clunking sound comes from underneath the car and it kinda shakes my car....i know its somthing to do with the clutch...any ideas? its a tip tronic auto...thanks

if your tans is making "grinding" noises then typically a flush wont dont anything for the problem. id rec a trans shop look at it...

ya but he said clunking noise, I thought was have the same problem as well but its just my braided oil line making a rattle against heat shield

Get outside the car and have somebody else shift it. The apparent location of a sound from the drivers seat is often not the actual location.

Could a broken motor mount cause a sound only for a shift into reverse?

we'll everytime you engage and disengage your autotrans the engine does rock but not where you can feel it like that a broken motor mount could be the cause

The autos do tend to "clunk" a bit when shifting from park to reverse.

Are you sure it's not the pads "frozen" to the rotors? I've noticed this a few times, first thing in the morning, especially as it's colder now, that they freeze up and emit a loud pop when the seal is broken just as you start to move off.

I highly doubt anything freezing in San Diego! LOL!

lol, good point - being from the UK, I tend to forget that not everyone in the US has the same weather. It's cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey in NY at the moment!

actually it's usually a clunk....screeeeeeeeeech, as my belts try desparately to get a grip on their pulleys and makes my car sound like a 70's Disco Van piece of crap.

Haha, our cold spell is some peoples summers, it was between 20-30 degrees at night depending on location and 60ish during the day.

I love san diego!

The auto trans does make some movement when shifting from park, but not a clunk, have someone shift it and listen underneath it.
