Autolock works about 75% of the time

Anyone had this issue? I have the Autolock turned on on my CX-7.

It seems to work about 75% of the time.

I noticed that when it doesn't work, that when I close my door, there is no beep, also. So it seems like it isn't exactly the autolock that isn't working, but some kind of sensor in the car that recognizes that all the doors are closed.

Anyone else had this happen? Is there a fix?

I have the same thing. This usually happens when you don't close the door hard enough. I just close the door again and then it beeps and autolocks. The autolock also does not seem to work if you walk around from the sensor range and then come back again to close the door, then I will actually have to pull the smart key and lock it.(potkettle

Yeah.. I notice it seems to happen more often if I get out of the car before my son (backseat).

When I asked the dealer to do autolocks on mine, they told me they have had so many issues with it, they are asking customers to NOT have it done. They are waiting for Mazda to come up with a better set of software updates.

I've had this feature turned on from day one and now have 18K on the car with no problems at all.

i have an MS6 and here's my .02. It usually takes about 2 seconds or so for the car to recognize the signal after you have shut the doors. You will then hear the first beep. I think that some people just get in a hurry and expect the car to pick up the signal (or lack there of). Just try not to walk away too quickly without hearing that first beep. The smartkey must be in range with the car in order to set the autolock feature (first beep). At that point the system autolock is initiated and you can walk away safely. Try that and see if it works.

It occasionally happens with me, too. It happens sporadically and I can't pinpoint under which circumstances it oocurs. But I simply open and close the door a second time and that does the trick. It's a minor irritant, something I can live with. Still though, I hope Mazda does find a fix for it.

I have run into this issue. I'm in my car by myself most of the time and it never happens.

The issue seems to happen when there are more people in my car and there are multiple doors opening. I found that I have to wait till everyone else closes the passenger doors and then close the driver door last; It's happened to me only once, but I have come back to the car to find it unlocked, not a good feeling.

My new rule of thumb, if I'm not alone, lock the car with the smartkey to be 100% sure.

Yeah.. It seems to happen more often if I close the driver's door first. Then the passenger door.

You don't have to be standing next to the drivers door and you don't even have to be standing next to the last door to close. You just have to be standing right next to one of the sensors when the last door is closed.

If there are others with me I just get out and shut my door and stand next to it until the last door closes and I hear the beep.

I have noticed that it will fail to autolock when I'm the only one if I have to get something out of the back seat. It's like the back doors are too far away from the sensor.

If you don't hear the beep, you don't need to reopen the doors, just press the request switch on the door and the doors will lock. This is what you would have to do it autolock was not turned on and it still works.

I keep my smart key in the same pocket as my cell phone. Occasionally it interfere's with the smart key and I have to pull it part way out of my pocket, then the request switch works.

One way or another I don't walk away until I've heard the beep either from the autolock or from me pressing a request switch.

That's because most people don't read the instructions or can't follow directions. I've had the autolocking turned on for months now, and only twice did it not actually autolock... and that was due to user error (meaning either me or my husband's fault).

The person with the smart key HAS TO be standing close enough to the sensors in the car when the last door is closed. Considering it's a turbo and should run a few extra seconds before shutting it off, I just wait for everyone to get out before I turn off the car. Then get out, stand there, close the door, *beep*, and then start moving away. The biggest mistake everyone makes is they get out of the car like normal... meaning they are moving away from the car already as they close their door... so by the time the door is even closed they are out of range of the sensor. I know this to be the case because this is how it fails to work for my husband.

I too have had the problem with auto lock; it seems that if you walk away from your car diagonally towards the rear it will not lock. Also it’s a problem if the driver’s door is the last to shut. Too bad for me most of the time I leave my car on a diagonal angle as I leave the car. I am guessing the sensors are located in the front of car, so if you close the door and start walking quickly away it’s a problem. I have to retrain myself to walk parallel to the car towards rear till beep is heard. Still a nice feature, just seems that multiple sensors should have been put on car.

Yeah.. that doesn't work for me, because I have a 5 year old. I like to get out first, then help him out and/or watch him. You never know what small kids are going to do. I have been trying to close the drivers door last. That seems to help.

Another way is if I walk to the back and it didn't beep when I closed the front doors, then I can press the button on the trunk.
