MP3 258/1500 [blue]
I went to my first autocross on Sunday in Bristol (CT). It was AWESOME. I didn't race but I watched my two friends' Miatas. There was a spicy orange and a titanium MSP. I wanna take my MP3 sooooo much, but I'm such a wimp. With my luck I'd spin out and hit some random angry Mustang or something.

p.s. I'm looking to buy a stock airbox for my car so I don't have to be in a prepared class. Anyone selling?

If you go to www.ner.org and click on competition corner you will get to the next page and click on solo. Lots of info, you can also go to www.scca.com forums and scrool down for the solo section or northeast. I know they have them up at Ft. Devens in Mass. In the forums there is a lot of info and how to get involved. Don't be shy everyone starts out somewhere and when they start out they are not the fastest one. Join the scca and get involved, you will learn alot plus it is lots of fun. My .02, also I might still have my stock airbox kicking around.

We should just have a communal NEPOC stock intake to trade around when people want to slap it in for autocrossing.. of course I'm out since my car is Street Modified (damn you cams and ECU!)

i'm such a wimp. i'm so afraid i'll go the wrong way on the track or something. it looks so confusing from far away >_<

i'm trying to think of somewhere i can practice in my area but i've got nothin so far.

What intake do you have now...wanna trade?

I have an injen CAI but I wanna keep it. I just want the stock one for autocross so I'm not bumped into street prepared.

more races. one day i'll go, probably not this year, maybe next after i try some ice autox this winter :) if mazda was doing zoom zoom live again this summer i'd say that's a good place to start, get some experience for free without worrying about your car at all. chevy is doing one though in NY but it's $50. i think BMW does similar events too, not sure if they're free or not. they're all good places to start i would say

when you go to an event(at least with the scca) you will walk the "track" and you will try to find a good line. If you go to some of the links I posted there are people who you can contact. The people in the scca are very friendly(ask Racerchick) and are very helpful. Everyone is a beginner at one point. I started working the corners this year at some tracks with the hope of racing in the future, at times I think I must be nuts for wanting to try seeing how these drivers go, but a few weeks ago there was a driver that it was their first time out and at first was very slow but by the end of the day and picked up the pace quite a bit. The most important thing is to have FUN! There are very slow drivers but they are having fun what they are doing.(first)

what? who said autocross!? <= like some1 sayin cake around a fat kid :p

Does your region have a Novice class? Most regions allow you to run as a novice for a while, and you'll generally get novice course walks done by an experienced driver. I wouldn't sell the intake til you know you wanna run. At first, they won't generally give you a hard time (unless you're like the shizzzz right out of the box lol) if you're new and uncompetitive. Also, do not be afraid to ask for ride alongs, or for an experienced driver to ride with you. Generally, they'll be glad to because a) they get another look @ the course for free, and b) they'll generally give you pretty good feedback.

Ok, that's my schpeal, did I forget anything? :D

that was my spicey orange there =) i wasnt racing, i was letting my bf use it since his mx-5 needs an new lsd....theres another one tomorrow, i should be racing this time.....i'm so scared too, i dont want everyone laughing at me when i go off course or with my luck i'll stall mid-course =P hopefully i'll see some of you there

no one's gonna laugh, cuz every one of 'em has been there. Relax, have some fun and show, and give 'em hell!

You were watching a Connecticut Autocross and Rally Autocross event. You should come, they have a novice class where they have instructors to get you on course and get started. The other ones are SCCA in Boston, NASA-X at Giants Stadium, and SCCA down in NJ. Don't worry about cost, if you have a decent condition car you can run. The only investment you really need to get started is a good helmet.

PS I drive the Titanium MSP you saw. I've just started, too.
