well, its almost the entire width of the windshield, up around the rearview mirror, and now the passenger side is starting to curve down towards the hood.
i know, i know, it totally slipped my mind, blah, hope i can get it fixed soon.
There's nothing explicit about cracked glass in the SCCA rules. It will be a judgement call by your tech inspector or safety person.
Autocrossing the car can put extra stress on the glass and may cause the crack to spread. If you think the windshield could fail if the crack spread much more, you should probably do something about it. Fortunately, mobile windshield glass repair businesses are really common.
You may want to run a strip or two of clear packing tape on both sides of the glass along the crack. I know it won't do much when it comes to spreading or adding rigidity, but In the event that it severely worses, it'll catch any small shards of glass. I've gotten through tech before using the tape..
Its cool, will be fixed tommorow. No glass deductible on insurance though, so it hits the pocketbook. Oh well, it needed to be fixed anyways, so whatever.
I don't know why they would stop you (though the rules may not follow common sense)
front windshields are anti-shatter... they have the inner laminate, so even if oyu were to majorly stress it and make it crack from end to end, top to bottom it wouldn't fall in on you and shatter all over you.
the laws governing "safty glass" in front windshields is old as dirt.
that being said, they could fail you if they wanted, but why?
