Auto trans bucking engine light flashing HELP!

So it's an 03 protege auto trans with 128,000 miles doesn't want to drive when warm, it bucks in first and reverse after it gets into second on up it's fine I replaced the intake tube spark plugs, cables, and air filter. I think it's the trans or a sensor having to do with the trans cause if I put it in neutral it doesn't do it. It has fluid so I'm not sure what the next step would be. Once while it was bucking it threw a code that was a random misfire p0300 or something like that thanks!

it just got worse...

So just went out to try and drive it and it wouldn't even go a block it was bucking and the check engine light started flashing so I shut it off put it in neutral and fired it up it idled rock solid and I was able to rev it but as soon as I put it in gear it started bucking again it would also do it in reverse so I parked it I won't be able to get it anywhere with a code checker. I had this type of symptom before but it was the engine and threw the same code turned out the EGR was bad I replaced it with the Canadian version and cleared it right up so I'm kinda pissed it's happening again but this time the trans is causing it, in the mean time I'm going to try to get my 280z running so any help would be greatly appreciated as this is my dd thanks!

If it is the engine, the code probably is for an EGR valve or misfire (from the sound of it). I also wonder if it is a load issue on the engine. Have you tried jacking up the front end and spinning the wheels while in drive at idle?

ok so I thought it was the trans because I was able to put it in neutral and the bucking would stop and I could free rev it with no issues. The bucking was also happening in all gears, well in a fit of desperation I bought a new oem intake pipe for $30 off ebay it arrived today (only took 3 days way happy with them about that) threw it on and everything cleared up so I'm pretty stoked because I had replaced about everything else that could cause that problem hope this helps some other people.

When you say "intake pipe" do you mean Air cleaner intake hose?

so it started doing it again after driving 153 or so miles and what i'm thinking is the throttle body gasket is bad or the gasket from the intake manifold to the engine is bad so i'm going to replace both and hope that clears it all up. What is wierd is it only really does it in the lower rpm range and only when hot if I start from a cold start it does fine and once i get past the lower rpms it does fine. i'll post up the results after.

If the intake manifold is leaking, an easy way to check for this is while the engine is running, spray some starting fluid at the gasket at each intake port. If any RPM change is seen, it is the gasket.

I know this is a zombie thread, and a post out of the blue from me, but, did you ever resolve this, I'm having the exact same problem, but with no codes yet. I'm guessing a bad coil, but was wondering what fixed yours. Thanks!
