Auto Headlights on Start-Up Mod?

I have a MY08 GT and was wondering if there is a mod to turn off the auto headlights during start-up? Seems like Mazda should have considered this option as I feel it drains the battery when starting. Our Jetta lights turn on with the ignition in the on position but the lights turn off during start up and would like the CX-9 to do the same. Any thoughts? Thanks!

One option: Make sure your light switch is set to off and then engage your parking brake. The auto-on daytime running lights should now be off.

The drain on the battery is going to be insignificant unless you leave the key in the run position for an extended period.
