Australian cargo light kit

If you haven't heard of this, Mazda of Australia offers a cargo light kit that mounts in the side walls of the cargo area, supplementing the pathetic light in the tailgate.

See it here: TC11ACCLT - Cargo illumination - Mazda Accessories

First of all, has anyone used it? It looks like a brilliant (pun intended) idea. But I haven't been able to find any installation instructions online to determine if the kit comes with a wiring kit, of if there is factory wiring behind the panels to support these lights, or if the wiring on the Australian cars is unique.

Any insights greatly appreciated. Thanks.

So strange how accessories are country specific. I mean, why not offer this in the USA and other countries? The more they sell, the better, right? Looks like what they should have done from the get go.

Pish tosh, poppycock. If they're offering a kit at that price it ought to provide some real illumination.

Do US model KF CX 5 have wiring for kit? Want to see intructions with wiring digram before ordering non returnable Australia marketpart.
Also saw Sound Off has a few designs with low half amp draw.

Okay, that Amazon link at least gives me the information that a wiring harness is included in the kit, so thanks. The service manual indicated there is a rear BCM behind the trim on the left wheelwell, one of these days I'll have to remove the panel to see what's back there.

First, I think the ridiculously tiny light built into the inside of the rear hatch is pathetic. Shame on Mazda. Next, an optional easy to install kit would be great but if you cannot find one or choose not to go that route it is fairly easy to make your own rear lighting. Obtain LED lights of your choice (mine from Amazon) remove the rear plastic panels and drill holes as necessary and connect the supply wires to the 'switched' side of the original switch. Now all the wonderful light you can use that operates just like the factory single. Pics attached, will add on and off pics tonight to show the dif.

The precise reason I was hoping to find the instructions for the kit was to help me find the supply wires for the factory light *without* fishing wires back to the tailgate. Please tell me where you tapped into the factory wiring!!

Edit. Oh never mind. You added additional lighting within the tailgate. I want to add lighting in the side panel. The rear BCM is behind the left side trim in the cargo area. I was hoping to find the wires there.

Eggsalad: If you are set on adding your lights to the side panels, you then have to decide how you want them to operate or when to come on and off. If you don't use the factory light switch you will obviously need to add a manual switch somewhere. I'm sure you already had planned for that. The factory wires to the little factory light run inside the headliner up top. This panel is easy to remove. Find the wires to the factory light with a diagram or a probe, then tie into those and fish them to your desired location. Hope this helps a little bit. For me, I wanted my additional lights to come on and off automatically when the deck lid was opened and could also be turned off as desired. Wiring into the factory light switch made this happen. If you want this sort of automation I suggest you wire into the factory light and run your wires up the inside of the hatch and fish them through the factory rubber gator flexible thing between the hatch and body and then to where ever you choose. Good luck and have fun.
