Army unit in Iraq disobeys orders

I couldn't agree with you more. The high availability and penetration of technology has given way to much better communication. All it takes is one phone call, or letter, or email, or picture via cameraphone to set the media on fire. I've heard about horrible things happenning in the armed forces from friends of mine, but now there are other options that help eliminate the "my word vs. theirs" scenario.

The conspiracist in me tells me that eventually something along the lines of a focused EMF technology will come into use to eliminate these "leaks" which lead to dissention. Though truthfully, all this media coverage will force the armed forces to own up to their responsibilities to the nations civillian masses. The recruiter videos are sugar coated beyond belief. I have two friends who are recent ex-marines, they have no desire to go back. Both have tattoo's from when they were active - and they tell me that they serve as a reminder to the honor of service - but also to the hard truths they were forced to learn.

Ultimately, I think our armed forces should be paid more, and have a higher incentive plan - e.g. extended family benefits of both education, and healthcare.

Some people like to play hero - and they have that honor. I'm not one of them. They can fight for the citizens rights, I will continue to exercise the very rights they fight for. I work in the IT industry 7 days a week (mostly - I do take about 6-8 weeks vacation time per year) and while it may not be physically demanding - mentally is another matter entirely. In the end, I am content and I sleep well.

hmmm wierd, another platoon still carried out the mission, so their excuse of not doing it was because of "broken" down, unarmored vehicles, etc...so my question would be for the people who carried out the mission, did they use the same vehicles that were supposedly unfit for the task?

and were they escorted by armored vehicles and was the fuel contaminated

yes, that too! said there was 120 soldiers in that platoon, so i also wonder how many of them went, compared to the 19 asked to go...

people are lazy, and self-centered. regardless of the shape of the vehicles, the job was done by OTHERS so they didn't have to, the lack of fuel and food, hurts OTHERS and not themselves.... back in WWII you would of NEVER heard of somthing like this...

its the times and the people living in it... period

From reading this article I must come to the conclusion as well. Since all the information was posted in the article are going to be true I must say they are pussies and lazy as well.

I love trash talking other people in my nice comfy seat way back here in the safety of my home.

The two people who posted above me are idiots. Oh wait, you have high post counts so you must know everything. Sarcasm is king.

well lets see, i have been deployed to the area they are located. i would say ihave first hand knowledge of the subject. IF the article is displaying truth, then my statement is correct. we had a pussy that decided he wasnt going to go on any more missions with us towards the end of the war, and he got himself kicked out of the army. anything else while you sit in your comfy seat?

one thing i will say is based on one article, how the **** do you people know how good or bad troop morale is? you think the ******* media is going to report stories of GOOD morale? what kind of news is GOOD news? sheesh.

Interesting, be nice to see little more into it.
But to hit on the point Matt made, news does not report happy events or if so it is rare.
How many times have you heard lately of a unit or solider delivering supplies somewhere that may have been dangerous?
The news is merely riddle with events that cause heart ache which can be happy or sorrowed.

Who here truely watches car races without the desire to see a wreck? Or watches those cops shows with the desire to see someone get the crap beat out of them. Heartful stories just don't see to have the impact that disasters do on ratings.

hold on smart ass. it doesn't take a genius to know that the job still got done. the people originally assigned wussed out. period. the job was transfered to others, because those few people couldn't/wouldn't follow orders.

as a general rule, if you can't follow orders, then dont join the military. PERIOD.

the thing that makes them pussies, is that they didn't think about the people they were supposed to be supplying, the ones doing the REAL FIGHTING.

geez. why do people always jump to conclusions about a huge group of people based on a small number of people who happened to grab the spotlight?

Great post. Pussies refusing to do thier DUTIES. I can go on and on about vehicular maintenance, and such, but I will not. The unit Motor officer would not let these vehicles roll out if they were in "such bad sahpe" as it would be HIS ASS AND CAREER on the line if something happened. PERIOD.

did the soldiers that completed the mission use the same vehicles? have armored escort?

need answers before pointing fingers

you with the 343rd quartermaster? (poke)

troop morale does suck! not as a general statement but with the 343rd it's safe to say. justified or not it remains to be seen. but then again Army investigations get political so who knows

If their trucks were not mission capable than they would have never made it to Taji anyways. But I don't think missing movement would have been the way to voice your concerns, I would of went to the next higher command and what did the risk assesment say? Who signed off on that? Even if they could have limped their way to Taji fuel would have got delievered, supplies cannot stop moving or nobody wins. But somebody picked up the slack and the mission got completed.

And about not having armored trucks, I convoyed from Tikrit to kuwait which went through Taji in an unarmored truck. That steel plating will not stop an AK-47 round, we tested it.

I just wished they acted more professionally.
