arg! brakes

Okay I did all that stuffs on the front pads and they felt good. I then pumped my brakes to check for leaks (none). Then the pads still felt like they were biting. I didn't put the wheels on and try going for a drive though... do they just need to seat themselves?

I might finish it up tonight or just wait until tomorrow. I need to rebleed one of the back brakes and put that new washer in, and also mess with my swaybar.

what you want to do is a set (4 or 5 times) of progressively harder stops from speed (basically between 45 and 60, down to 5 or 0. Basically, go really easy the first time, and you basically bring then up to heat gradually. This is called "bedding in" the pads. Do this, and you shouldn't have any problems. After you do it tho, either get on the interstate (or any other road where you shouldn't have to touch the brakes at all), or stop somewhere for a few minutes to let em cool. Over cooking em's not gonna help much either ;)

Ah! I've heard that term but didn't know what the process entailed. Thanks! I'm going to get this all wrapped up tomorrow, can't wait to get it done. Too bad I won't be able to put it to full use for another month and a half or so.

Ite I just got done finishing everything up and went to bed them in like aMaff said.

First thing I notice going fairly slowly is they are making noises pretty bad. Pedal feel is quite different too. However, when I hit the brakes, it doesn't feel like much is happening. I did a couple runs from 45 down and each time the braking felt off, like the front wasn't doing much. The last time I gave it the beans and the back seemed to lock up

I parked her and checked the fluid, still high. There were no leaks when I checked everything before taking it off the stands. The front rotors were quite hot and you could see where the pads were biting.

Ugh. What gives. This doesn't seem right :(

There's generally a compound on the pad that helps them bed in properly, but doesn't stop very well lol. Did something smell really funky when u were braking? Just go out and do a few more stops in a safe location and you should be aiight

Yea, I did smell a little funk but I figured that was due to the heat :D Probably cooked 'em good. These pads were used so I probably don't have that compound any more, making more noise. I'll give it another shot here in a minute as it should be plenty cooled down by then (36F, balmy!).

ya, it takes a bit for em to start feeling right. I remember mine doing that

It is a little better the second time. I didn't have my rotors turned so that might be adding to the problem. The pedal feel is way different, you have to press a lot more to engage the brakes. Perhaps I need to bleed the MC or something.

Bah definitely doesn't feel right. Time for the stupid question of the day: how do I tell which pad goes where? I figure if I screwed that up it might be causing these problems.

Pedal definitely feels too soft as well.

Let me add, since these were used, I can't see the little writing on them :) Right now mine are like this: on the OUTSIDE pad, the little tab thingy is on the bottom. So that is what I can see with the wheels on. I can't find any good pics to compare to. The service manual sucks as well. ;asdlkfjdsakjfdsakqjdsaflkdsaljf I make simple stuff frustrating

Ya man, squeelers always go on the inside... The pads pretty much only go one way and the fact that you have them going another worries me alot. Brakes arent to be messed with unless you know what you're doing...

hahaha, hopefully after this time, he knows what he's doing ;). If you don't mess up, how're you gonna learn, right? :p

I'm trying to find a picture of the little tab I'm talking about, but can't. There is one on all four pieces. I'll go take a picture I guess

I think there is one on all four pieces, unless I'm going crazy. You are right though, the stock ones only had the tab on the inside pad. I'll have to jack it up and take a wheel off and see if I'm losing it or not.

I attached a picture of the tab (the picture is viewing it normally, i.e. up is up to the roof of the car, and down is down to the ground).

Dunno. I bought 'em from Turfburn. I'll take a wheel of here in a minute. If they all have tabs, I'll just throw the stockers back on for now.

They all have the tabs. Weak sauce. Trying to find out if they are supposed to have these tabs or not. If you have experience with HP+ pads, let me know.

Pictures of the pads attached. The ones with the numbers are the stockers.

In the picture of the back of the tabs, the one on the right seems to have the extra tab.
