Hello,

I have a 4 speaker Mazda 2 and just ordered the OEM tweeters (as I can't find the sail without the tweeters) I am wondering if I should pop out the OEM tweeters or are they pretty good. I have heard tweeters are important BUT quality is not that different as per sound. Keep in mind I listen to rock/pop mostly radio, and not crazy loud.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

Andrew

We have 2 GS with the upgraded "6" speakers. They re ok and they sound good but I m upgrading it all when I can. I wouldn t pay for oem tho

where did you find the OEM door sails, i did a google search a while back for them but didnt turn up anywhere where i could buy them!! any info would be appreciated because i would like to buy them!

Most tweeters crossover between 2-4k.. which means that the tweeter is responsible for the frequencies that most determine the intelligibility and directionality of sound. In fact the quality of a tweeter is every bit as important as the quality of any other speaker component. Poor quality tweeters will have uneven freq responses, or peaks or dips that can make the higher end of your sound sharp, harsh, and fatiguing. They can smear soundstage and (esp in a car environment) make sound washy and ill defined.

Good quality tweeters will be smooth and focused and maintain clarity and detail even at high volumes. They should also not be fatiguing to listen to for extended periods of time.

It is definitely worth having good quality tweeters connected to good quality crossovers.

Whether the tweeters are "good" is relative to whether you plan on keeping the other factory speakers, or replacing them with aftermarket ones. The OEM tweeters do help the factory speakers sound better and are probably worth adding. If you're replacing the other speakers though, don't bother with the factory tweeters -- just buy a decent set of components for the fronts and you'll get much better sound.

Concur with the man in blue.

Are they good? Yes. Especially given the segment the car is in, compare the sound to that of the competition and you'll find it leans slightly in favour of the Mazda. IMO, they're a little "pitchy", but they do round out the sound nicely compared to not having them there.

Agreed.. my response was based on the assumption that the OP was going to replace the OE speakers. I'm with you guys.
