ap from cobb

Just got paid today and I officially have enough in an account set aside for the AP. Can't wait until the end of the month to get it.
 
I'm eager to get it as well, but I think I'll wait to see how it works for some members before I buy.
 
i am hoping the AP does much more for the ms3 than what it presently does for the rx8. we got the press release from cobb and i have to say i was very underwhelmed by the results of the Stage 1 flash they have for it - a whopping 8 horsepower gain, no stage 2 flashes as of yet or street tuner. i'm betting we'll see better results on the ms3.
 
getting more power out of a rotary is a LOT harder than getting more power out of our engines. Hell, getting more power out of any naturally aspirated engine is tough. I remain optimistic.

i think what makes me a little sad is that guys have been getting better gains on those by running modified emanages from GReddy since the car came out in 2003. i am sure cobb is being conservative and that once shops are able to tune it you will see better results.

unfortunatley thats the story with cobb. the AP by itself NEVER does anything amazing on ANY car i have seen. sure it makes power with the upper stages, but is that because of the AP or the fact that by that time the car has.... a downpipe, mid pipe, cat-back, CAI, higher boost, new intercooler, exhaust manifold ??? of coarse that car is gonna make 50+ hp look at the frigging mods it has ! it is a nice tool, dont get me wrong, but it doesnt MAKE any power. it does help the stock ECU from going retarded from all the mods though. IMO the stock ecu does very well on this car. the ONLY reson i would but any EMS is if it had throttle control. but that is not a good enough reason for me, so i will more than likely never stray from a stock ECU. .......well never say necer i guess, but it is highly unlikey.

me personally, i'd be ALL over it if for the price i was able to tune it myself right out of the box (or at least have the option to buy that feature) or if i wasn't paying 100 dollars per 1 horsepower gained.

launch control would be an awesome feature, and throttle plate i'm pretty sure they've got nailed.
 
i wonder how its not needed - there is a definete fall off above ~5k that i think would make a big difference.
 
Throttle control would be reason enough for me to buy. I hate knowing the ecu is closing it, even when I have the pedal to the floor.
 
being able to pull all the way to redline would change the mannerism of the car entirely. even if the gains aren't double digit fabulous, the 'butt dyno' effect would be worth the price of admission ;)

i see this thread has gone in the toilet already.

I want the tuning software to go with the AP so i can make my own stage kits...
