Driving though a parking alot, or going below 10mph the steering pump seems to make a loud whining kind noise. Atleast i think its the power steering. Does anyone elses msp do this or is this something i should get checked out?
same, here when i'm in low gears or around 10 mph, took it to the dealer and told them i heard a whinning noise when in low gears and going around corners, they test drove it for 15 miles, said nothin came up. l
Yup - think its normal, just louder than usual on the proteges maybe. Mine's had an audible power steering system since I brought it home... and I seem to remember my previous car doing the same thing. I also notice it revs the engine slightly to get power to the steering if you're turning the wheel while sitting at idle.
Simple test! I thought it was my power steering also. When making a turn through the parking lot do it once while on the throtle and once when off the throtle. If it makes no noies while turing when off the throtle its your tranny. My car use to make a horrible whinning noise, like when you have the wheel cut all the way to one side and are making a turn. I changed my tranny fluid to the gm syncromesh and now my car is noise free. Give it a shot you have nothing to lose. Like I said my car only made the noies at low rpm turns like 5-10mph, now I here nothing!
