I drive a caution cone
Driving though a parking alot, or going below 10mph the steering pump seems to make a loud whining kind noise. Atleast i think its the power steering. Does anyone elses msp do this or is this something i should get checked out?

Yeah when sitting in the car I hear it in the right side. I dunno what the heck it is... Sounds like the car is not grounded well...

um.. i had that problem when i changed my power steering can

check your fluids, i had none....

if its not the fluids, i have no idea dude

yeah I have a hissing noise when my wheel is turned coming right from my guage cluster. It disappears if I turn the wheel to a certain degree.

Yup, I have it. Sitting still or moving. Can't hear it with windows down or with radio on, and it comes and goes based on how far the wheel is turned.

My PS fluid is slightly above the full mark.

same, here when i'm in low gears or around 10 mph, took it to the dealer and told them i heard a whinning noise when in low gears and going around corners, they test drove it for 15 miles, said nothin came up. l

Power steering makes noises. At low speeds, the power steering has to work harder to turn the wheels, so the noise is louder.

I think that's normal guys, just something about how the power steering system works. Can't give any actual proof of that though, just a hunch.

Yup - think its normal, just louder than usual on the proteges maybe. Mine's had an audible power steering system since I brought it home... and I seem to remember my previous car doing the same thing. I also notice it revs the engine slightly to get power to the steering if you're turning the wheel while sitting at idle.

I have this same problem.. But I don't think it has always been there. But I could be wrong.

I am just curious if anyone else brought there car to the dealership, And curious what answers they recevied.

TIA

Simple test! I thought it was my power steering also. When making a turn through the parking lot do it once while on the throtle and once when off the throtle. If it makes no noies while turing when off the throtle its your tranny. My car use to make a horrible whinning noise, like when you have the wheel cut all the way to one side and are making a turn. I changed my tranny fluid to the gm syncromesh and now my car is noise free. Give it a shot you have nothing to lose. Like I said my car only made the noies at low rpm turns like 5-10mph, now I here nothing!

I mean its up to you if you want to or not. I know mine stopped making the noise when i put in the GM syncromesh. so its up to you.
