Anyone with 17"s have wheel rub?

I find that if I have 1 or 2 people in the back seat and hit any decent sized dips or bumps I get a quick rub in the rear wheel wells. I can see little cuts on the tires from it. I usually only ride 1 or 2 people max in my car, but on occasions I have 3 and my dog.

Anyone else get this, and what did you do to stop it? I have 205/45/17's on there now.

Thanks,
Ryan

I have Motegi MR2's or MR12's, if forget. I am not sure what the offset it though?

First of all, erase one of your posts... second of all check on your offset and refer to HERE. You should not be rubbing at all with the proper offset.

Offset is +40. Tire size is 205/40/17. It's not lowered at all. No speakers or extra weight in the back besides passangers sometimes.

7.0" +42 and higher; Barely making it

you need a few more mm to avoid rubbing. sorry, you're just gonna have to grin and bare it.

Thanks Guys!

Not what I wanted to hear, but oh well...life goes on. Might as well take out the back seat, cause I can't stand hearing that rub sound!

I will end up grinding my teeth right out.

What does roll the fenders mean....does it mean what it sounds like, roll them under so they don't cut the tire?

you basically bend the little lip up.. be careful tho.. because u can crack the paint.. i have heard of doing it with a baseball bat... or with a fender roller that someone rented.. i donno.. goodluck -=)

According to Motegi's web site your wheels are 17x7.5 with a +40 mm offset. According to Rishie's wheel fitment recipe, when running a 7.5 wide wheel you need a minimum of +48mm offset. Even if you roll your fenders, I think your still going to rub.

spend the time and look for a place the will "Roll your fenders" properly. Ask them if they have the correct tools to do it, do NOT ues a baseball bat!!! Ask them what their proceedure is, they should be mildly heating up the paint in the wheel well area to reduce the risk of the paint CHIPPING. I was fortunate do borrow the device from a shop and I did it myself, the key was in taking your time and making small adjustments and continually heating up the area that is being rolled.

I have the ebich prokit and 17.5 wheels with a 40 offset and 215/40 tires. I rub but im going to roll the fenders. mp5 vbmenu_register("postmenu_190602", true); -Even if you roll your fenders, I think your still going to rub.>>>>>
If you look at the fenders and see how much is there you will notice rolling them will def take away the rubbing problome. We are talking mm here not inches.

I have the same problem. I have 17x7" rims with +40 offset and 205/45/17 tires. After rolling the rear guards, there is still some slight rubbing when there are 2 or 3 people in the back seat and when I drive over a big bump or pot hole. Looking more closely, the rear tires are actually rubbing against the corner of the rear bumper, where the rear bumper meets the rear panel.
I'm planning on lowering the car soon, so to fix the rubbing problems, I'm planning on modifying the rear bumper slightly by either:
1. grinding/sanding down the inside of the bumper where its rubbing, kinda like rolling the bumper part of wheel arch, but actually cutting the plastic instead of bending it. Maybe i can actually bend it if i get it hot enough?
2. pulling the bumper out sideways so that it flares outwards more, and won't get in the way of the wheel. The bumper is quite flexible, and there is a bolt near the corner of the bumper that mounts the bumper to the chasis, so I might be able to drill out the mounting tab for that bolt and put in a spacer to push the bumper out sideways. kinda hard to explain without pics...

As a last resort the tyre shop say they can machine 2-3mm off the mounting surface of the wheels which would change the offset to +42. I wanted this done straight away, but they recommended against it since it voids the wheel's structural warranty. But they said its fairly safe to do the machining. Another tyre shop also said its pretty safe to machine 2-3mm.

Hopefully this will fix my rubbing problems, but my wheels are only 7" wide. If yours are 7.5" this might not be enough. Will let you know how I go.
