Anyone who has installed the COBB Short-throw Shifter

You guys I'm sure have the problem as well.. or I hope I'm not alone atleast, where when you shift into 5th gear the part of the new shifter hits against the side of the boot/console cover? If so do you just deal with it or did you do something about it? let me know please!

In addition it seems like my airbag light is now on after installing the short shifter... at one point I did drop a screw underneath the center console airbag control unit, but I never touched it I don't think.. how can I get that light to turn off?

its not an issue with the gear its just if you shift it fast the thicker metal piece on the COBB unit hits the plastic around the boot.. its nothing mechanical just a clearance thing... you dont have that issue?

Yes, it is a clearance issue and I've noticed this as well. Doesn't interfere with the operation of the unit though so I just live with it.

Ah, well that helps! thanks. ill look into what exactly isnt clearing and see if i can figure it out. but im glad its not just me

all it was was a bracket underneath, ill take the adjustable height from the COBB over the set height/throw of the TWM anyday... feels so much smoother with the height around stock height, it was too notchy feeling when it was shortest, problem is solved though.

My TWM short shifter doesn't do any of this s***.

word the **** up.
also, when you take the cup holders out, lift up the pieces of velcro (sort of like velcro) to see some of the airbag stuff...check all that s*** to make sure it's ok

Werd - hate chopped shifters.

Did you modify the bracket to better clear it in 5th as the fix?

FYI guys the problem was actually my fault... going about taking out the stock shifter the wrong way i bent the bracket that the bottom ball socket goes into... bent it outward so when the plastic cover was back on my center console it made contact with the plastic. have since bent it back into place, just be careful, the instructions are a tad bit confusing.

the airbag sensor actually had nothing to do with the part under the velcro as i thought, it was actually my passenger airbag deactivation light bulb, i must have forced it out of its housing too hard cause apparently it was blown.. brought it to mazda, 2 hrs. and 45 minutes later that was the diagnosis. lol. hate dealership visits... waste of time.

Got mine installed and am happy for the most part. The shifter now sits off center and more towards the passenger side. The stock shifter has a bend in it moving it towards the driverside. The COBB is just straight up. The spring clip doesn't fit in the COBB slot on the base either. It just pops right out when you go into first. Not a big deal, but kind of expected a little more from COBB.

My spring clip fit fine it seems, it definitely doesnt pop out in first for me. Go back in there and make sure you have it all set up correctly, the instructions were a real b**** to understand if you didn't reeeeally pay attention.

I finally installed the sts on my gf's car and there's no clearance issues. It is pretty close to the edge but it doesn't bother me one bit. I love it and recommend it to anyone. PM me if you need help with install
