Anyone try and fit MSP cupholders in their MP3?

Hey guys,
I just got my MSP cupholders and I tried them in our centre console, however they don't really "sit right"...as shown here (not my car, but exact same result).
The other thing that you don't really see in that picture is that due to the cupholders being higher, you get part of the pocket blocked off...

Has anyone tried to either customize them, or try and fit an MSP/MP5(2002.5+) centre console into their MP3/early 3rd gen Protegs?

i had one of those in my car for about 28 minutes, and decided i didn't like that it stuck above the console on the sides. from having it in my hands, it doesn't appear there would be any way to modify either piece to fit with out swapping out the whole console.

^Customizing the 2 tabs under the cupholders is easy; just cout out ~-" ring to make a shallower cupholder depth and glue it back together. As for the "rising tabs, I have no idea. Thing is, it STILL wouldn't look right though...

it wouldn't be quite that easy - and i thought the point of that style was to have the deeper cups?

Ya I know it's more complicated then that, but it's a partial solution. I would rather have the entire console from a P5 though. I need to ask around my local club to see if the fit is correct though...

So that means that it would fit no problem, fix the "rising cups" and still have a decent pocket above it? Might have to start searching around local scrap yards then...

its not just from the protege5 either - i understand its all 02.5+ models.

which means the P5 and MSP, as stated in my 1st post. Did the '03 sedans have flapless cups as well?

i have flap cupholders in my mp3....

all 01's and most 02's have the flaps. sometime mid-02, mazda did a "refresh" and added the open cup holders to the entire protege line. (among a few other things)
