Anyone raced a MR2 turbo?

You don't really have a chance. Mr. Two's will own an MSP. Actually, come ot think of it, I've driven my buddies 91 Converted Turbo MR2 quite a few times. Definetly a bit quicker than the MSP.

(yes) ^^^ive never ran...but they seem like quick little sheets...

They actually are a lot faster than people think. A lot faster. Heh. We converted a 91 to the turbo motor last winter. A few upgrades with it, apex downpipe exhaust, apex'i s-afc, etc etc..Enough to suspension mods to make your head spin. But its an awesome car. I was actually considering buying it for myself, but winter won't allow it. So, hopefully it's a P5 for me.

i have several friends with them and 2 of them have 300+ hp
they don't weight anything thats why they are freaking fast

Actually MR2 turbo's are pretty heavy, especially the t-top version the hardtop version only weighs 2600lbs and the t-top version weighs in at 2800lbs it's because of the reinforced frame, plus all the coolant and a/c lines that goes from front to back. it's almost as heavy as the msp! :)

Yes and all that wieght over the rear wheels, mid/rear engine=traction like a MOFO! Well compared to FWD anyway :P
I have a friend at work who owns one, a non turbo, but nice. He wants to buy a J-SPEC turbo rear clip and install the drivetrain in his N/A.

Wish I never got rid of mine. That was was much quicker in the twisties then my MSP ever could be (understeer kills this car). As far as quater mile stuff goes, I'm not sure. Neither the MR2 nor the MSP are made for this, so I think that both of them would be very slow.

My mum has an 89 supercharged. Even that stock for stock would be a close race. the older models were a lot lighter, and 165hp stock revving to 7500+ (no idea on torque) it's a quick as hell car. Can't drive one after the other because it's in Vancouver and I'm not ... but from memory it would be very close.

Edit: that's in a straight line. We'd kill it in the twisties.

MR2 turbos were rated, I believe, at 200 hp and they do scoot. My '91 is NA (only 130 hp) and is plenty peppy with the 5 speed. The MSP has forced it out of its garage space and it will go on the block in a month or so.

MSPs are very neutral in handling while the MR2 has a lot of oversteer because of the weight distribution. but MR2 turbos are very quick if they do not weigh too much.

friend had an old 89 supercharged mr 2...i had a 92 lude si (h23a)...i could keep near him...he'd have a length on my by 40-50 then he'd slowly pull away...when we'd road race them i couldn't stay with him in the corners or under braking as his car so much lighter than mine (they are ~2000lbs while my lude was 2800lbs)...good car but small...great little weekend racer and car for lazy saturday drives through the mountains

Yeah, i've seen that done before. if you have the time and patience and a little cash, you'll have one quick mr2 :)
