hey guys/gals...just wondering if ne of y'all raced a stock wrx yet. some guy @ my skewl saw my miata (messed up still) and was laughing 'cause it was kinda jacked up. but then i come to skewl in my new MSP and he laughs at me...i kinda wanna race him to shut his mouth, but i'm not sure if i could win. i knoe that the wrx makes about 227 hp @ flywheel but w/ the extra weight and drivetrain loss, do u think i could possibly win in my stock MSP ? or should i get some mods like an MBC, downpipe, etc. ? blah...this guy's pissing me OFF !!! :mad:

You'll get crushed off the line! Plain and simple. Your ONLY *SLIM* chance will be to try and convince him to start from a roll and you'll still probably lose, but you have a better chance.

My WRX with "free" mods ran low 14's, and with less than $1k in mods pulled off a 13.08 @ 104.3, and this was within four months of the US release when parts were not as easy to get as they are now. There's no point in playing with a WRX at all - besides, you've probably got other reasons to appreciate your car more than his. You mentioned school, if this is high school and you pay for your own car, chances are his parents are paying for his WRX as it's a pretty spendy car for a high school kid to own. Point is, you don't always have to be faster than someone, there are lots of other ways you can feel better about your ride. I agree completely with the previous comment about enjoyng your unique car. When I first got the WRX I had people coming up to me in parking lots to check it out. Now nobody cares when they see one. Granted, you might not have people lining up to drool over your MSP either, but that's just because they don't know any better.

Um lets see...I paid $17,000 for my MSP and a WRX is like what...$24,000. The dude is paying more for a car that isn't limited edition. I see WRX all over the place in Orlando. Now STIs...thats another story. Anyways I paid a lower price for a car that is better looking (better looking then the 02 frog light WRX), limited production, turbo and a booming stock sound system. Oh its also designed by Mazdaspeed and Mazda won the Le Mans back in 1991. Subaru won counless WRC championships but they barely have competetion and the WRX is the "Street" version of the the STI. Sure the MSP is front wheel drive but the bottom line is you paid less for a awsome car! He might be faster but you have style. He'll smoke you but you'll get his girl! Invest the $7,000 diffrence and Im sure you can smoke him! Or take that money and invest it in a twin turbo RX7...then you'll def smoke him and get all the ladies! Don't get me wrong the WRX is a awsome car but for a highschool kid to be driving it? Makes me want to kick his ass! Back then I was riding a bike to school. I'll get an STI when I get a well paying job but for now...MSP.

I totally agree with newf. One of the motto that our club has is go fast with class (XodusPHd). Who cares if he is faster. If you want to compare # look in Car and Driver. Loosers like that aren't worth the time or money. Don't spend all your $$ just to get revenge or braging rights. I can't tell you how many times people have came up to me and laughed at my car wanting to race. The truth is MSP gaines mad respect. In our club everyone was comming over to chill with us...The STI club, GTI club and even bad spec-V club. Civics even came up and complimented on how awsome the MSP is! Save it up for college...trust me you'll thank me later for saying that! Just like newf said there will always be faster cars. And yes girls go for the MSP...They think its a lexus or something. You also have a roomier interior!

Do a engine rebuild between the WRX and 2.0L fs motor. My friend baked his WRX and needed to get an engine rebuilt or new. It will cost you alot. You can buy three of our motors compare to one wrx motor.
As for looks yeah protege look alot better looking. AWD is okay. I think its over rated my opinion. Hyperfest I passed WRX on the corners but yeah I got waxed on the straights. Oh well by the spring all motor I should be in the mid to lower 14's.

Take an estimated 30% drivetrain loss from 227hp = 158 hp. same amount of hp but he has better traction than you do off a launch.
It's not worth it to race him. he can laugh all he wants, but in the end, wrx are dime a dozen, I don't even pause and wonder when I see STi or EVO anymore. Seen it before way too many times(before I came over)
If you really really absolutely want to have to race him, find a track with some decreasing radius turns and 90 degree turns with some elevation changes and a short straight-away, then you might have a chance. Cuz on the decreasing radius turns it can trick him to come in too fast, and his awd along with his pudginess is going to make him plow like a tractor.

Do some mods and learn how to drive well. Just because a magazine quotes times for a stock WRX as whatever doesn't mean some needledick punkass with an inferiority complex can duplicate them. A test driver he likely isn't...

dude...a chance in valet mode?! 7psi on a WRX is half it's boost. It'll have just as much at the crank as you, but his drivetrain losses would be HUGE (as YuYu pointed out). You should be able to tear his ass apart with that much of a handicap.
on the other had...if he's running his stock 1+ bar, you may as well go in reverse. Of course, that's what it would look like if he pulled up to an STi. I saw one accelerate to pass someone yesterday...It just pulled the the side and moved forward like this giant, smooth and fast snake. Beautiful!

this is about more than shutting him up, it's about life...and how you deal with it. as was previously said, there will always be someone with a faster car, hotter girl, or more money. but you have to be secure in who you are as a person. i realize it takes time to figure this out...i was a sophomore in college before i was cool with being me. but when you reach that point, life is so much more fun. enjoy what you have...especially your friends. and feel lucky that you have two cars. i didn't get my first car until i got out of college -- and i too rode my bike to school every day. so blow off this idiot...i wouldn't even waste the energy to respond to him. he's an idiot and will someday wrap his car around a tree and hopefully not kill anyone else.
besides, street racing is absolutely stupid. save it for a track where you have ZERO chance of killing bystanders.

104mph? What mods did you have? I know a '03 owner with intake, 4" downpipe, 3" mid-pipe, 3" exhaust with highflow cat, unichip piggyback, boost controller, etc that traps 97mph.

I saw 4 STI's on the road yesterday, 3 silver and one blue. One of them I was lined up with, he was looking over at me and I just shook my head no because I knew I would get OWNED!!!!!!
