Anyone find a way light the visor yet?

Yup...drives my wife nuts everytime she drives it. She doesn't understand why for a couple extra dollars Mazda didn't light up the visor mirror. I can't explain it...its got everything else. I'm sure it'll appear in '08 so I'll probably just wait and replace the visors then but what an oversight by Mazda :(

Can't you just turn on a map light when you open the visor mirror?

I'm glad Mazda didn't light them on my p5.. or did they.. I honestly can't say I've ever opened the mirrors, seriously.

I went to AUTOZONE and bought a lil' clip on LED light by Bell for $5.00 for my fiancee's side, the visor will be a lil open but the body of the light matched the interior.

The map light doesn't work right, we've tried it. I'm not all that concerned but 3 times now when we've gone someplace nice she's made the comment. I agree w/ her.
I'll have to check that LED light thing out at Autozone.

Do what mixmaster did and head to the local parts store. They make a few different types of mirrors that are lit and clip on for a few bucks. I've put them in my older cars and it keeps my wife happy........

I've found a way to route the wires from the upper map lights to the sunvisors, and with a bit of drilling - down into the visor body. It was a bit of work to get the lights installed.

Nice! How are the visor lights turned on? Using the map-light switch?

The visor has enough depth to allow a microswitch in the back of the removable mirror assembly. So it turns on when the mirror cover is opened

I took some photos of the visor parts before I started

2 x LED, superwhite, ~3V, 20mA. Resistor=330ohm .25W

I guess this is a bit of a technical project, sorry there's no easy way here.

Maplight & sunroof.webp
Maplight/sunroof control panel. One clip on either side. The small bundle of wires is the maplight power set. I spliced into these - very short lengths, and very small wires

Wires above maplight panel.webp
The hole on the right goes into the headliner in the same compartment as the holes for the sunvisors. With a long narrow stiff wire you'll eventually be able to get to the sunvisor holes

Wiring visor3.webpHole.webpHole2.webp
Again, sorry it's a mess
I wired a microswitch that fits into a slot I cut in the back of the mirror assembly. When the cover opens, the back of the hinge presses down about 1/4 of an inch, enough to press the switch.

I used a diffuser as the LED is too dazzling shining directly at the face. The diffuser was a rectangular section of a spare car side light.

I know it's a hack job... Still it works (cheers2)
