Anyone cut stock springs?

Woah, timeout. Sorry to bring this back up but I completely missed this post originally. And I'm sorry to say that you're completely and totally wrong in this.

Sure when you have a linear spring the k is constant and the force depends on the displacement of the spring. However the length of the spring plays a direct roll in the value of k.

k is calculated using an equation that relates the modulus of regidity of the material, the diameter of the spring wire, the overall diameter of the coil, and the number of coils in the spring.

By cutting off coils you do change the spring rate.

If you don't believe me you can look at the equation yourself here:

Good post - I forgot all about Poisson's ratio and elastic properties, but reading through your post and the ensuing website I'm glad I didn't attempt to explain that. No too many people here would've followed that at all. I'm still going to go ahead and say that cutting a few inches off the spring is not going to have a substantial impact on the spring rate. Again, great explanation though. It's been a while since I've dealt springs...
just dont cut springs

See above.

Well, it's been a month and a half since I started this. I am bored and thought I would post a couple of pics. I know some people wanted this thread to die, but some people wanted to see the pics. It turned out exactly like I wanted. By the way, I ordered new wheels, so if anyone would be interested in these, PM me. Also forgot to mention how great it handles with new struts/springs/sway bars. Huge difference.

Well the problem now is I am putting a sub in the back. If it goes any lower I will cut a half a coil off the front or just ditch that rubber seat under the front coil. It's only one 12", so hopefully it will be okay.
