Anyone cure engine tick problem yet?

Checking valve clearance in the FS-DE requires a Mazda special tool. I've never done it, but I hear the dealership gets about $400 in labor for the job. I've read the manual on it and it's pretty complicated.

it is about $400 depending on how many shims you need ,16 valve $15 a shim and 75 an hour for labour the job takes 2 hours to do iam getting mine done next week iam getting sick of the ticking i was planning on getting a fmic but the valves are 1 on my list

Just checking to see if this problem has found any resolution. We had our first sub 100 degree day in Phoenix in a while and the ticking was insanely loud upon startup after work today. Once the engine is warm there isn't the slightest tick, smooth till redline, but it definitely does not sound healthy for the first 5 miles of driving.

After changing out the WGA twice, replacing the clutch, the slave cylinder, the motor mounts, 2nd gear synchro, the entire transmission, spark plugs, and all the vacuum tubes in just two years of ownership from 30k to 50k miles, I think it's time to cut my losses. It's a very fun car, but it can only get worse from here.

i took mine in to the dealership and those bastards said its normal for these cars to make that noise

normal.....huh... kinda like it's normal for the car to clunk in the rear, the manifold to crack, motormounts to fail, the trunk to leak, lsd to break.......hmm i guess this car is full of normal abnormalities??? heehehehe.
