anyone change the instrument panel backlighting?

just curious if anyone has successfully changed the LED's / color of the speedometer, etc. It would be so nice if it were anything but red or orange (at least that's what I am imagining).

I did read about one dood who tried to change the color and ended up messing up a bunch of electronic stuff in the car.
