Anybody paint their stock wheels?

I have the stock chrome polished MP5 wheels and honestly I love how they look but hate the shiny polish color. I wish I had the non-polished ones....anyway, how hard would it be to paint the wheels another color like gunmetal or black? I'm assuming they would have to be sandblasted before being painted and have no idea how much all of that would cost...maybe just buying aftermarket 16's from tirerack would be cheaper? Any advice and opinions would be appreciated. Thanks!!

sorry for being stupid but what exactly is powdercoating? will it look the same as being painted? I wonder if any shops in Hawaii will do it for me? I only have my one set of wheels so need it done in a day or two....so I can drive of course...

it is where they use a negative based powder and positivly charge ur rim(i might have that reversed) and the powder bonds to the rim giving it the color........ general description...... my boy painted his rims and the chip really easy..... just to let u know.....powder coating only takes a few hrs if u can find a shop to do it!!!

What color is your car that you want them powdercoated?

Mine's yellow, and absolutely love the polished alloy... Especially when its bright and sunny, and the wheels are clean... Its sometimes blinding...

I've seen somebody in the forum, that has a silver p5 with "gun metal" powder coated rims .... will like to know who he is .. thy must look really nice !!!

Thnx man ! That reminded me that it needs to be updated, I also installed the BOMZ Intake ... seems we are in the same budget!

Haha I got lucky in the wheel department when after about 2 months of searching I found a set of Motegi gunmetal MR7's sitting in the back shop of a local NTB. The employees completely forgot they were back there, and as a result they sold me all four in perfect condition for $440. Not bad, even if they are only 16's.:D

Hmmm...I guess nobody has done this? I guess i'll look for some gunmetal color rims on Tirerack...hey what is the width of our rims? I don't want to have to buy newtires..... I think its 16"x7' ?? with a bolt pattern of 5x114 ?? tell me if i'm wrong. Thanks!

I was driving by a motel about a week or 2 ago when I saw a mid blue p5 in the parking lot.. I swung into the lot like I always do when I see a 5 because I was attracted to the yellow wheels that I saw on it.. They were the stock wheels painted yellow and it looked like crap!! My advice, don't do it. :)

He's right, there is someone, I saw that thread too. Just do a search on "powdercoated" and "stock" or something like that. The only problem is that I think the thread was about something else, not just the rims. Worth trying to find it. I think it might've been one of those "pics of my car" or "check out my ride" threads.

If I have some time I'll help search too

i powdercoated my stock rims black. i dont have any pic's of them powder coated black but...i do have one of the rims just spray painted flat black. they look different now than in there pic's, but it will give you an idea.
