Anybody installed a qi charger in the car?

the iOttie went on sale 50% off recently, I wish I had snagged one.

I did pick up some parts to fab up my own though, and Ill be using rare earth magnets to hold my Nexus 5 to it. Will update when its done.

I am going to try this in the cubby hole by the car charger. It has a non-slip surface and Galaxy S4 with wallet case should fit on it fine. I would rather have the charger hidden but I always put my phone there and since it eats battery so fast I always have to take time to plug and unplug when I get in and out of the car and after awhile the mircoUSB ports doesn't connect as well.

You have to be careful with the distance between the charger surface and the phone. The charging distance is very small, a couple of millimeters. I guess the further away is the phone the efficiency of the charging decreases.
Hiding it will be further away from the phone. There is another layer of plastic between them.

when did that iottie qi holder come out? been looking for EXACTLY this.

got a buddy who rigged up a qi charger in a DIN pocket in his corolla, seems to work okay.

I built a Qi charger into the small pocket to the left of the steering column. I don't have navigation so I have a fairly useless pocket instead. I thought it would make a handy Qi charger. Looking at the wiring diagram there was switched 12V available on the connector that would normally go to the nav unit so it was easy to splice in a 12V micro USB adapter to power the Qi unit. The pocket is easily removed by pushing from the back and pulling from the front at the same time. Then I cut out a slot so the Qi charger and phone would fit. There is a metal frame piece to the rear left of the pocket that will limit the depth of the Qi charger. I attached a small piece of plastic to keep the phone from going too deep into the pocket. Works great and keeps the phone near the window for better reception. The screen is mostly not visible but I don't need to look at it in the car. The pocket is sloped slightly which helps keep the phone in place. No issues with the phone falling out.

I have a Nexus 5 which has built-in Qi charging. It has a 5" display. I don't think you could go much larger.

I have the Samsung Note 3, it is larger.
My phone, doesn't fit in the center storage area, where the power plug is located(under the heater control).
