In case you haven't heard, approximately 60,000 Mazda6 are facing serious rust issues in which rust develops around the door trim on the inside of the door. The rust is created by a corrosive lubricant that was used in applying the seal during manufacturing.

I believe there is a TSB for this, meaning most dealers should fix it for free. They are basically removing the trim, cleaning off the lubricant, and repainting and sealing over the rust spots (but not taking the rust off!)

Just curious if anyone's encountered this issue. If not, be sure to check by looking closely around the black door trim!

I have it. I'm waiting till I go back to the dealer before I surrender my baby long enough for them to fix it.
I'm afraid of the rental car they're going to give me.

Rust Recall

There was a letter sent to me in October 2003, few months after i bought my 6s that there door seal recall on the car. There is also a recall where it leaks forming a puddle in the engine bay, i guess where the antifreeze is i dont know something like that. and there is a fuel door recall, something about it leaking also.... definitly check into all... Just call a repitable Mazda dealer and give them yor VIN and they can look it up right away, if it isnt there, make them check it out anyways, its under warrenty anyways, so you still dont have to pay.... I did it when i got a bunch of letters, but i was lucky nothing happened. I was told it was for the first 70,000 2003 models. Double check for sure though

Rental Car issues

Mazda is known for giving crappy rentals. 2 days after i bought my 6 i was driving down the freeway and i went to shift into 5th and the clutch never came up from the floor.... i had to call mazda roadside assistance and had my car towed to the dealer. Everything was under warrenty. never had a problem since...
say this " i paid alot for this car. the least you can do is give me a car that has the same value as what i paid for my 6...." thats what i said and they have me a 2003 Trailblazer....lol but then again it might not work either lol it was worth a try though...

You people and rust.

Its STAINING. Not rust. Geez. Rust is the paranoid response to discolorization of anything.

Its just a stain caused by a sealant material that they used during production of the vehicle, and can actually just be wiped off with some detailer spray.

IMO the fix looks far worse then the problem ever did.

I agree, When I had the problem with my Mazda 3 of the air bag sensor thing. They were going to give me a pontiac sunfore, I am like what the hell, My car is a loaded GT and they want to give me a sunfire, at least give me a car with the same safety feautures G-d damn it, like 4 wheel DISC brakes. I do a lot of driving and often on slippery roads. I said no thnx took my car and did not even sign the paper that siad Mazda Canada is not responsible for any injurries or death due to not having the air bags work in case of accident. Took them 2 weeks to get the new sensors. I would never drive such a bad rental for so long.
