Any way to use XM with stock headunit in 06 M3?

What I'd -like- to do is integrate an XM tuner much like the Terk universal tuner (XMD-1000) and brand-specific adaptors - so that the receiver is controlled entirely from the stock head unit and everything's clean, no extra tuner screen, wires or other external accessories hanging out of the dash or center console.

Is the stock (non premimum) sound system in the M3 compatible with any of the terk adaptors? It it made by a certain audio company?

I notice that Mazda offers an insanely expensive Sirius adaptor for $400 or so after install kit is included.

Has anyone hacked the port that this plugs into and made it available to an XM receiver? Seems like Terk is the only one out there doing this sort of thing. They have discontinued their old series of adaptors for the universal tuners and are coming out with brand-specific all-in-one units that are more expensive. I just bought an old set for the aftermarket Kenwood in my Protege5 for XM, and wanted to get XM for my fiance's Mazda3 as well under the same account. :)

I suppose barring that, I'll have to get an Aux input adaptor and a tuner with a separate interface and try to integrate it cleanly into the car.

I work for XM and I Have been working on getting one really bad, Terk makes OEM adapters that work really well. But no mazda...

I tried the Axxess module with an xmd1000 and I went thru 3 diffrent modules, which all of them were doing the same thing. It keep saying no signal but you could hear the channel. And I swapped out the xmd1000 and antenna several times as well. But if you want you can go here. http://www.installer.com/item/display_item.php?it=xiah-mz1

As for now I am using a commander MT ran through my AUX it fits very well in the ashtray.

Great idea on the ashtray mounted receiver. The only thing we keep in there currently is the garage door opener and we can put that elsewhere.

The 06 M3 has no aux input, so yes something like the Axxess would be appropriate. Has anyone made a tutorial on how to take apart the dash and get to the radio? The thing is so well sealed up I haven't clue where to start.

What input do you set the head unit to see the Axxess with?

On my Headunit the Axxess module used the SAT button. But for my MT I use the Media/AUX Button. Not sure for your car cause mine is an 07.

It is actually easy to remove the head unit in our cars. I think there is a How to posted somewere if not I can take mine apart with pictures and do a How to...

-edit- And the Axxess module is listed to only work up to 06 models and that could be the reason It gave me problems cause I have an 07 and the communication between devices ie cd, sat, aux, and NAV may be diffrent...

I was going to say that the axxess module doesn't work with the '07's and that's probably why you were having a problem, but then you figured it out. ;)

I'm thinking the axxess module is what you should look for to get your XM input.
