Any police officers here?

Yeah... but aren't pedestrians illegal on the freeway? Besides... I think Texas cops would know better than to stand in front of traffic!!
they do not stand directly ... that is just stupid ..... and yes pedestrians are not suppose to be walking on the freeway ..... but if you are working the freeway you it does not apply .... if so how do we get all the construction workers on the freeway to fix them

Construction workers block off traffic to protect themselves.

Standing in traffic is just suicide. If you accidentally hit one of them and they tried to sent you to jail, it would be entrapment.

on the high way they do not stand in front of traffic, it is dangerous for the peace officer and for the drivers on the high way ... they sand off on the side ( on the shoulder) and wave you down to pull over .... if you do not they are right next to thier car to jump in and chase ..... and no it would be entrapment only if they made you hit them on perpose ...not for trying to stop you .....

Yep md state does it all the time on 495-95 but during the day time...but at night if you do 80 them and PG blow past you at 95 to 110....(I paced them(smoke) ) man that was fun driving an all black car with cb antennas and tined dark windows so it looked like I wasn't following them but I was and got where I was going quicker... Granted secret service uses Ford PI's not Neon PI's(Long Story See My Cardomain For more on that)

And yes no one is the same and some are just asses. I watched people write tickets and then after work did everything they just ticked people for and then some! Don't let me get started on worthless MPD and their automated 911 voice mail (bird)

I work for a police department and have never seen an officer be able to make a radar gun say whatever the officer wanted. Im curious how that would work.
My village police uses a tuning fork to calibrate the gun before their shift. Couldn't they just use a different fork at the time of the stop to make it read whatever they want?

I ******* hate police. Mainly because there's is NO consistancy to their decisions - my aunt has gotten out of being caught driving under the influence 3 F-ing TIMES already. Meanwhile I have (had) a clean record and I get ticketed for SLOWLY rolling through a stop sign? The reason for my ticket instead of just a warning?-no doubt because my car is orange and "looks fast". F police. Not only am I contesting this latest ticket but I'm thinking of requesting a jury trial just to be a PITA for them. It's horseshit. All cops can eat the peanuts out of my s*** if you ask me.
why does this not surprise me that it was in wisconsin? im sure most of you same my "fukt up day" thread.

this is why i was so furious. speed limit = 65. i had my cruise control on 72. my radar detector is going ape s***, i am in no hurry (cuz i left 20 minutes early to get to my destination). it was 9:30 on a monday morning. i was in the middle lane surrounded by semis and tons of other cars. the cops pull me over and give me a ticket for doing 82 in a 65 becasue their radar (not laser, which is much more accurate) clocked me from an overpass. complete and utter bulls*** if you ak me.

There are good and bad. I've been pulled over about 30 times and have recived 8 tickets. All but the first 2 (I was stupid and pled guilty and mailed in the tickets) were reduced to non-moving violations with one exception, when I was clocked at 139mph and it took the cops 18 miles to get me (I wasn't running, I just didn't know they were behind me). That ticket was reduced to 69 in a 55. Once I even passed a cop not realizing it doing 75 in a 55 and he let me off with a warning.

On the other hand I was once pulled over for 40 in a 30. The cop told me that I was doing 48 in the 55, but still doing 40 when I entered the 30. When the cop asked for my license, I informed that my wallet was in the back seat. He asked a second time and when I reached back to get it, he pulled me out of the car at gun point, cuffed me, called for a canine unit and even when the dog didn't get any hits on my car, they tore it apart anyway. After all that they still gave me the 40 in a 30. It was later reduced to parking on the pavement when I went to court.

Everyone has their story about how they were going 72 in a 65, 50 in a 45, or 37 in a 35... The truth is, the cop knew you were speeding and so didn't you. You were guilty. Had you been going 60 in a 65 it would have never happened but it seems in America that the speed limit is a starting point of how fast you should be driving. No officer in their right mind will pull some over going 60 in the right-hand lane while other cars are flying by in the other two lanes. The but everyone else does it excuse doesn't work with Cops, it only ticks them off.

Here are some tips for those of you that don't get it:
1) Drive under the speed limit, not at it or over it. (Not many do, but you can be sure that they don't get pulled over) It gives you much more ground to stand on if you ever do get pulled over.

If you do get pulled over...

2) Pull as far over as possible so the officer doesn't have to stand in the middle of the road. Turn off your engine and turn on your interior light if it is dark. Do NOT take out your license and registration until asked. Reaching across the dash to grab something out of the glove box or reaching into your back pocket can look like any number of things to someone watching you from behind.
3) If you have passengers, instruct them to remain quite unless spoken to.
4) Always address the cop as Officer or Sir/Mam and show respect even if you dont have any.
5) Be honest and to the point. Avoid adjectives about your speed such as "I was only going 70 mph" or "I was barely doing 65 mph". This signals to the officer that even if you were doing the speed you claimed...you feel that going faster is alright. Its all context clues. If you lie and say you were going 70 when you were really going 75, he knows, and will tell you he clocked you at 80 just because you lied about it. If you are prompted with "Do you know how fast you were going?" he wants to know if you are going to tell the truth..not whether his meter was correct.
6) Look them in the eyes if you can and maintain eye contact.
7) Do not provide an excuse for your actions. If you have an excuse you are guilty, end of story, no court appearances for you. If you are prompted for one, apologise for speeding if you actually were or state that you were not aware that you were speeding if you truely believe you were not. Providing an excuse means you feel it is alright to speed given the circumstances. It is better to just apologize. Of course, if your wife is in labor in the back seat...that is a different story.

If you follow these steps you have a 75% better chance of getting a warning instead of a ticket.

As for #1, here on the freeways, if 2 cars are driving next to each other under the speed limit at the same speed, they can get busted for impeding traffic. The law also states the speed is governed by: 1. posted limit, 2. flow of traffic, 3. weather/street conditions. You can be pulled over for going 75 in the left lane on a 65 road if everyone else is going 85 because of "improper use and impediment of the passing lane" or something like that. Friend's wife got busted for it.

Amazing the kinds of things you can find when you read your state traffic charter. I got pulled over a while ago, and was able to recite the law number that protected me in that case. The cop invited me over to his car to review the code, and one half hour later, he gave up saying "You know this better than I do, you're free to go" no warning, no ticket, nothing, because what I was doing was legal and could recite the section (41.6.140.b), even though he didn't think it was. (Tip: Don't try this at home)

Fun Fact: Statistics show that cars going under the speed limit have a higher chance of getting in wrecks than cars going over.

Speeding laws were originally designed as precautions to keep cars going what was safe speeds for those cars to drive. Though the safety features of cars have evolved to allow safe, relatively quiet travel at 100 mph (without the engine exploding, and the floors falling out ;) ) the old 55 mph limits are more or less now just used to give people tickets to increase state revenue. (If you have any better reason to explain "quotas" I'd like to hear it, 'cause I'd rather deal with a viligante system than bored cops w/ quotas) Safety became economics. Law became a b*tch.

Yes, there are cool cops around, we just don't meet em very often 'cause they're not the ones who pull you over for not physically turning your head both ways before proceeding at a yield sign at 3 in the morning.

Problem on the road today:

It is NOT safe for a full size SUV to be travelling at 85 MPH. Granted they can go that fast without the engine exploding and the floors falling out...but they cannot maneuver to avoid say a car going 55mph. Additionally, wheras truck drivers are schooled in how to handle a large vehicle in an emergency situation, soccer moms and other SUV drivers are not. Add to that people talking on their cell phones, reading the newspaper, watching porno on their LCD screens, smoking cigarettes, drinking coffee, and then you start to realize that no one is safe on the road at 85MPH.

I seriously think there should be a seperate license for vehicles over a certain hieght or weight. I also think a road-course refresher and written test is necessary instead of just a silly eye exam when you go to renew your license. But that's just me.

they can't give you a ticket if you're not speeding. and they are required to show you the radar they clocked you with if you request it. if they say they used another method which is subjective, it won't hold up in court.

Um, that depends on the State. In Colorado you are not required to show anyone anything regardless if they ask. Every method of determining a cars speed that an officer uses will hold up in court...

A radar gun can be made to say whatever the officer wants. Showing you the gun is meaningless because of this.
What the hell? How do they do that??

This is the biggest load of BS I have ever heard...There is no way to modify the signal the radar receives. It states the speed of the opbject it is picking up, that's it.

You could point it at someone doing 80, or NEAR someone doing 80, then pull over who they THOUGHT was speeding. Cops make mistakes, that's why they're in the job they're in - easier to cover up yer bulls*** if you're the one enforcing it.
Nice...

Someone that is familiar with the way radar works and it's inherent limitations and inaccuracies can use those to measure a vehicle's speed as being higher than the actual speed.
No, they can't. If you tamper with a radar it is no longer legal to use...

And it will not hold up in court.

Yes, most people don't realize this. I was pissed off when my mom refused to go to court, because 'the officer was right'. Doesn't ******* matter, take them to court, it's your first, and only ticket...make up a beleivable BS story, like the little kid in the passenger seat was about to poop/piss his pants, or you where going to, or you had an emergency call to someones house or something. They will usually reduce the fine, and the points

Actually if you tell the truth to the officer, you are more likely to get out of a ticket.

Make a BS story at court, and you stand a chance of getting caught. Particularly if you go to trial. On the tickets here, they have a spot to put in the number of occupants, drivers attitude etc...All of which go towards your plea for a lesser fine and points.

stay outta arlington....

we had something going on with all the police depts. around here called project: SAFE...more like project bulls***. theyll pull you over for 3 over, and issue a ticket for 5 over
Most tickets are a range...0-5, 6-10, 11-15, etc...

On the plus side, tickets from out of state usually don't make it back to your home state driving record.

It's not much but it's something. (shrug)
Um, nope. It depends on the State you live in and the State the ticket is from. If they have a Traffic Compact, then you get a mean surpirse when you go to get plates or DL renewed...

A lot of states are on the Traffic Compact...
