There was a thread on POTN... this guy unwittingly purchased a stolen 70-200mm f/2.8L IS on craigslist. Come to find out... (like 8 months later) he was contacted by the police and had to give it up for the investigation.

>_<

The POTN members and Adorama chipped in and bought him a replacement though.

Now THAT was a mind blowing thread!

BTW if you ever have your gear stolen, please let us and the other big resellers of camera know what you've had taken and the serial numbers. Then it turns up we can reunite you

have fun, flyin!

I just got back from the zoo... I think I have a couple keepers... I'll post them up Tuesday hopefully!

Helen... that was a crazy thread indeed! I am so happy to see that such a wonderful community and Adorama could help that fellow out.

That thread is EXACTLY why I have all my serial numbers recorded for all my equipment.

which is a photographic equipment serial number collective base for items which have been declared stolen or lost.
The website allows photographers to declare all details about their lost equipment, such as the brand, the model, the serial number and also information which concerns the place, the time of loss and finally an email address for further contact.
Photographic supply shops, service centers, prospective buyers and whoever else wishes to, can, by using the search engine provided by this website, search through equipment serial numbers to find out if it has been declared lost or stolen.

Helen..awesome info! Thanks. I should totally write my serial numbers down instead of just relying on the receipts.

Thank you so much... the information is invaluable!
