i try to keep the iso low, obviously could have gone lower on these. so you think that a higher iso causes more noise than a longer exposure?

It's a combination of both. What I found was that I need to balance the length of exposure as well. You gotta make sure the exposure compensation is spot on. I try to keep the meter at about 0. Maybe try shooting Tv mode? Let the camera decide your shutter speed, and you control exposure compensation and aperture and iso.

One other thing is turn on your noise reduction built into the 5D. Try that?

The keys are super sharp but you're getting some halo effect on the strap. Try this..maybe do a 50% brush and mask the strap. So that halo'ing doesn't stand out too much but you still get the sharpness on the key itself. Sorry..let me clarify..just run the brush over the strap..nothing else.

lowest iso, longer exposure. aperture doesn't really matter. go up to f16 if you want, you just would need to sit there for like 30 seconds for the shutter to close

I took those at ISO100 f8 and ~3 seconds... you take night pictures just like any other picture...

it was probably f8... the kit lens is pretty much worthless except at f8 - f10 or so.

I was in DC for thanksgiving!

and that picture wasn't taken with a tripod. there was a little sign that said please don't swim or throw money into the fountain, so I braced myself against it and took that picture. This one I braced against a column:

I did another that was 100% handheld, but it didn't come out as good.
