Any photographers in here?

I went through some more pictures... Same day, but as the sun was setting.

Can someone give me a few pointers with in car motion shots at night? I'll post a few I took that I know need work. I had it in bulb mode with a remote but I'm not sure if i can take a shorter timed exposure and have it turn out ok. I know the lens isn't the greatest either but I'm sure there is a better approach to taking these. I'm also using a headrest camera mount. Appretiate any help.

I like the turning one but the ones going straight down the road are what I'd like pointers on. As you can also see in the 3rd pic the vibration is caused by the motor mounts.

When I did my night shots I strapped my tripod down.

Your focus also seems to be ahead of the car. Mine was on the stereo. Not sure what you are trying to capture there.

TWO cracks in your windscreen!?! ...not good... But awesome pics!

oh and Funky, your third model in the gray shirt and hat... omg, amazing!!!
love your shots too!

Maybe try being in neutral to reduce MM vibration?
Well that wouldn't work at idle. Might have to try blipping the throttle a little cause that seems to smooth it out a little bit.

Those look great! I'll have to practice a little more. The lens I'm using is a manual focus so I'll try to focus more inside the car next time. I set it to infinity thinking it would be ok, it's so hard to tell looking through the viewfinder/screen. They usually look good til I get them on the computer. Thanks for the suggestions though. Oh, where abouts do you strap the tripod at? Do you keep one leg on the rear seat and the other two on the floor?

I thought this one turned out pretty cool looking.

Water shot.. This was off the coast of Hawaii during a swim call. Taken with my point and shoot that I have a case for.

That is ******' awesome..not the pic but whatever you guys are doing LOL. It looks like you guys are riding a massive whale!

I like the turning one but the ones going straight down the road are what I'd like pointers on. As you can also see in the 3rd pic the vibration is caused by the motor mounts.

experiment with exposure length and aperture size in order to get the best depth of field. higher depth of field will also make focusing easier. if you can go with a longer exposure and smaller aperture then you don't have to be driving extremely fast. pick a speed/RPM that feels smooth and stick to it. a nice smooth road helps with vibration as well! focus on the dash in the moving shots, because nothing outside the car is going to be in focus anyway. set up the camera and adjust the focus in the daylight so you can see through the viewfinder better, then use that setting at night. tighten the frame on the windshield a bit more to exclude some of the visors, side mirrors, and peripheral junk. clean the inside and outside of the windshield to reduce weird reflections/glare(unless that's the look you are going for!). anyway, those are just some ideas i had off the bat. hope that helps... and can't wait to see more!

It's called swim call. We park the sub in the middle of the ocean and jump off the side, swim around, and try to climb back up via the bow. It takes a lot more strength than you would think to do it.

And thanks for the thoughts on the pic... I think.

I took some bird pics this weekend. CC welcome. don't be a jerk, please.

These are great dude. Macro is totally fun.

As for the in-car motion stuff...I agree with It's Yellow's post. People actually push their cars instead of drive them. Use a tripod and secure it somehow so it doesn't shake too much. Gently push the car or have the car rolling, and shoot at a small aperture and maybe a 3 second exposure.

I used my new 55-200 for all of these. no macro, but at the minimum focus distance, you can magnify stuff like no one's business!

I freaking love this lens. Best decision I could have made!

Thanks for the compliments, by the way!
I'm starting to see things I could have done differently with the aperture, but I'm pretty happy with them.

I never really thought about focusing during the day time. I was shooting at f4 cause that's the widest the lens would let me go and I think some of the exposures were around 5 seconds. I'll try just rolling at a slower speed and see how that turns out. I'll try to figure something out with the tripod but I think I'm gonna be very limited with that. Maybe I'll try using a different lens too cause I really don't need to see everything in the car. I appretiate the help everyone, I'll try it more this weekend. I think I had over 100 shots cause I didn't know what anything was gonna look like til I got home. Thanks again!
Those pics are awesome Sleeper!
