Any photographers in here?

Tekkie - I love pic #2. The rocks in the background make for a much better picture then just plain blue sky.

thks, I was trying to capture them as they were flying by the cliffs, it turned out to be much harder than I wanted because it was a small area

I like your flower pic, I have some out in the yard I need to capture today I think

yo Tekkie..in your first pic..i seen one just like it except much closer crop. It was one of those award winning photos...but ya..good s*** man!

Couple things:

1) Funky, what lens were you using for those fireworks pics and at what exposure settings?

2) Tekkie, I agree #2 is freakin awesome! Ever think about working for National Geographic?

I was using my 50D, handheld with a 75-300mm lens for most shots.

The wider view was my 50mm.

75-300mm
iso 500-640

I was shooting in manual so my shutter speed was ranging between 1/15 to 1/60

And my aperture was ranging between 5.6 ane 6.3.

All handheld.

yeah but it did not have the other bird directly in front of them :( thats what I was trying to get because I saw the same pic but after hours of waiting that bird would not leave lol

Should have used a tripod and used a 2 second exposure with a iso of 200 ish

Then the cars on the street would have been in motion and that would have been sweet.

Also the color seems to be better at lower iso's

I have thought about it but I have never looked into it to be honest, I expect that there is tons of people in competition, plus there are tons of better photographers ahead of me :(

for fireworks settings checkout this thread :) http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=341145&highlight=fireworks

Only thing is, I think Funky was trying to freeze the fireworks as opposed to the standard blur (long exposure) shot that you always see. I like it alot. I'm definitely gonna play around and try it this out this weekend...

Well to he his shot looks about the same as a normal long exposure.

I wish I had a setting like that to shoot from. I will be doing the traditional standing there shooting up posture.

I have been trying to scout a place and have yet to find a open acces place.

I wanted a bit of both. Capture the slow moving fireworks in frozen animation and get the motion blur of the faster moving ones with light trails so I had find a medium in shutter speed. Plus using a tripod would not have really helped as I have to keep the tripod head loose anyways. I used my 2 elbows and my balcony railing.

I had tried a 2 or 4 second exposure but the balcony moves too much at that height and zoom. YOu actually don't notice it but the balcony moves a lot especially when you live in a high rise building. I noticed it w/ the big zoom lens. Even with mirror lockup and IS turned off (no motor running), I still get the camera shakes even on a tripod. So...that's another reason for the faster shutter speed and higher ISO.

That first link almost makes me not want to shoot lol

I have been trying to scout spots for about a week now. I got a few more ideas today I we will see what I can come up with.

You can't find a spot anywhere? Really?

OK well I cannot find a spot I like. Sure I could stand in a generic shots of the fireworks in the blank black sky, but who wants that??

I am trying to find a unique spot that will give me something you don't see everyday.

That's one of those vicious attack dogs, right?

Here's some recent ones from me:

I'm getting sick just looking at that... Nice pics though!

Were you shooting into something reflective on the first two or is that just the fisheye? I'm trying to figure out the dropoff on the edges...

it's the fisheye. it does that haha. But ya..I'd like to try these over again though. I wanted to composite the images so that you see light trails. And then you see the actual ride frozen at the end of it's motion.

Sorry if you meant the 4 dark corners..yes..that's the fisheye. If you mean the lens flares, then those are the street lamps and the other rides and the concession stands. The fisheye I use is an 8mm 180 degree field of view. It grabs a lot of things. LOL
