Any photographers in here?

OK i tried again with some layering tool... I'm not so good at photoshop yet, but im trying, any better? I think it focuses more on the car now than previously

Here's my tries at cleaning your photos up... Tell me what you think.

They could all use a little more sharpening, I guess, but I didn't want to over do it. The contrast was screwing with my Unsharp Mask and I had to play with it a bit.

They all look really good, slightly better than what I did haha. This whole experience has really shown me that a nice crisp background can change a picture significantly. Especially in the editing, its so hard to focus solely on the car with a busy background like this, I think for my next photoshoot I will try and find something a little more plain.

gr? - still up for meeting near wilmington sometime soon?

My schedule is pretty booked until July so I'm not sure when the next time I'll be down in the area. I'll probably post something up the next time I'm down there. When I go, we hit the cars & coffee in Wilmington in the morning (high end sports cars get together for donuts and coffee), go for a quick cruise, then we split off. We usually have a barbeque, shoot the s***, then go take pictures once the lighting gets better (1-2 hours before sun set).

Just find an interesting surrounding, but simple. A lot of guys like the nature look. Some people like the busy, industrial stuff. Also the time of day helps in making the reflections on the car.

But yes, a simple background is something you would wanna start off with then work your way from there.

Does anyone have Photostitch or some kind of program that can put together panorama shots? I took a bunch of pictures from tonight's storm and wanted to put together a panoramic shot.

Took this one today

so I think I'm going to dive into a dslr with the nikon d40 kit with an 18-55mm and 55-200mm lenses. for ~$650. what do y'all think?

for me, i want better control of depth of field. i just can't get the type of shots i want out of my elph (which i love). it's been a while since i took film and video classes, but the sensors are bigger in the dslrs for better picture quality.

The biggest difference between a DSLR and a point-n-shoot is control over how your photos come out.

what would be the best benefit of upgrading to dslr?

Too many to list, but a few:
1) larger sensor = more light absorption = less noise
2) larger dynamic range
3) different lenses to use in different situations (wide angle, telephoto, macro, tilt-shift)
4) better autofocus mechanism
5) depth of field control

same camera and lenses that i have... its not quite as good as the d70 i was using before it, but its defintely solid. for the price, you really cant beat it i dont think...
