Any photographers in here?

i'm shooting more in Manual mode these past few weeks. I like the control much better over certain situations. if it's bright and sunny outdoors, i'll just stick it on Av and shoot. but in weird indoor lighting situations, Manual control is much more flexible and predictable.

Here is a small sample..

...from my Vegas/Sedona/Grand Canyon trip. This is the ramp leading up to the Chapel of the Holy Cross in Sedona, Arizona:

It was hard to get this with no people, as someone kept walking by every few seconds. More when I get home. Took almost 400 pictures...

Nice composition - good use of the classic "S" curve. Looks like a poor time of day to take pictures though from a lighting and shadows perspective. However, I understand how it is on vacation. You don't always get to pick the best time to photograph something. Also the colors look a bit washed. A bit of PP might help.

I've heard nothing but fantastic things about Sedona. I hope to go there one day. I'm a little jealous of your trip.

Nice S curve. i agree with comments above. looks like you were there in the afternoon and it wasn't the best time obviously. but good composition nonetheless.

yeah i mainly try to always shoot in manual mode (kind of a habit from my point and shoot camera which still had shutter and f-stop controls). ive been meaning to try shooting in A or S mode though to see how it goes.....ill work on it for sure.

I thought that manual mode was so complicated when I got my camera 5 weeks ago, but after a week I got the hang of it and I never use anything but that now

Manual mode is god when you want predictable repeatable performance under controlled lighting situations. I will generally only use manual in a very few cercumstances since it is rarely necessary to control both DoF and shutter speed. I use A and S modes 99% of the time, even when shooting macro studio stuff where there are no variables in lighting.

Hmmm...a contest. Beverages, interesting.

Here is another sample from Sedona:

I should have used fill in flash on this next one:

I am using no special settings. I need to re-learn manual mode.

Oh, and here I am:

I have a whole bunch more, but I don't have time to load them now.

Here is the Chapel of the Holy Cross:

Here are a couple I took of the Grand Canyon:

Again, the time of day was against me as the sun washed out my color. I wished I would have remembered to bring my polarizing filter.

Yeah, I think I remeber that walk way in the other post, went up a hill to a church or something? We flew into vegas and then took 2 weeks to go around the southern and nothern sides of the grand canyon, which included central Arizona and southern Utah, also the hoover dam and stuff like that, it was fun.
