Yeah, I heard someone say (hopefully it wasn't in this thread) that the key to getting a good picture is to take a lot of them.

So evidently Photoshop CS doesn't include camera raw support for the Rebel XT - you have to have CS2 to get that support. Oh well I guess I'll be shooting in jpeg for awhile.

Try downloading Picasa from Google. It has RAW support. It's not as good as Photoshop, but at least you can still shoot RAW and have Picasa play with the pics a little. It's easy to use, although obviously not as powerful as Photoshop.

Well, the key to any good picture is composition, the subject of the picture, lighting, the angles, etc etc. Taking alot of pictures will help you choose the best one out of the series. If i think i can get a better picture out of a scene, i'll try shooting it a few more times and then choosing the one i like the most during post-processing.

Thanks I'll check it out.

Yeah I was oversimplifying for the oversimplified (me mostly). Most of the time I take a pic with one of the EZ (program) modes and then several with the creative modes (aperture priority, shutter speed priority, etc.). Then choose what I like best (or whichever is the least poor).

In Adobe Bridge or PS CS2, is there a way to batch convert DNG to JPG?

Thanks!

Hmmm.. if you open up Adobe Bridge, you can select all the images you want to convert. Then opening them up with PS CS2 will allow you to convert either one at a time or selecting them all on the left hand side to do a batch save. that's how I do it for a group of RAW files. Technically it should be the same for DNG files.

Shooting with a Canon Digital Rebel XT (8 MP) at the largest size, how many photos could you fit on a 64 mb card?

And since I know it's a stupidly low number: What is the smallest size you would recommend for said camera?

Haha, on a 64!? You need a bigger card dude. That 64 is more or less worthless with that camera.

Smallest size recommended? That depends on the quality and size you want, not what someone suggests.

If you shoot in RAW (each file is ~8.3MB) so you can fit less than 8 pictures on there... LOL

The shots that I took above were on Medium/Fine setting which makes file sizes of about 2mb each (
2496 x 1664 pixels). I usually shoot RAW, but since I was on a trip and only had a 1GB card, I decided to shoot in Medium/Fine to get the maximum number of pics possible and still retain a good resolution. I shot about 480 pictures ... and I have the dual battery grip for my XT so no recharge necessary. :)

I recommend getting at least a 2GB card. I got my 1GB in January for $80. So you should get
a 2GB since they go for less than $100 nowadays. I find that I get close to filling my 1GB soon when shooting in RAW. Again, it all depends on how much you like to press your shutter button. :)
