I think i might get lightroom, it looks great.

Any one else use anything different?

software?
Mac or PC?
Laptop or Desktop?

if you use a laptop would you rather have a desktop? vice versa with owing a desktop?

just got lightroom and i think i am going to stick with that....thanks for the tip. It seems great...only thing i dont understand is how do you save only one image? Also does it overwrite the origional once I save it?

it does not overwrite the original, it keeps a database of the changes that you made and applies them, if you make modifications you can click the reset all button and it puts it back to the unedited version

Woo Tomorrow i will have my D40x and will getting some nice pictures it comes with 2 lenses 18-55mm and 55mm-200mm so expect some pictures from me soon

I like the idea, ZoominMX-5, but I gotta believe that's not your best shot from that session. The exposure looks pretty good and the mount is stable so its seems to me you have the makings of a very good image, except there's really not that much going on in that picture. Show us more!


I wish the image was shot like this. The shot was a throw-away (or so I thought) since I was literally talking on the phone against my should, with the flash in my left hand and the camera in my right...on manual focus. I wasn't worried about composition as much as exposure, but the focus is good and the lighting turned out interesting.

It was my first time out with the new lens and camera mount, i only was out there for 20 minutes or so before the cops asked me to leave. I've got a bunch more sessions coming up, and hopefully I can purchase an extension arm for my camera mount (so i can get the whole car in the picture)

So long as you keep working to perfect that idea...I think you are on to something.

So fill us in on the location. It seems you are outside but near a building? Could you drive on public roads with the mount where its located in that picture? It seems kind of far away from the car body.

Also, what brand is the camera mount? I've been looking to get one but I'm not sure if I'd end up using it enough. I'm thinking I could make something, but do I want to hang my camera off my car with something I made from Home Depot parts?

Location was a parking garage in Clemson, SC. I was downtown that night having a couple beers and decided to take a few quick pics at the parking garage I was parked at. Officer came and asked me to leave (not sure why), guess he thought it was a little late for picture taking and that I might vandalize something. After all, I am one of those Ricer nerds, right? (dunno)

Not sure of the camera mount that I have. It was given to me by a friend a few years back. Its a suction cup based mount. I've used it for filming autocross runs, track days, and mountain runs. Its very sturdy and once properly seated will not come off without some muscle. Wish I could help you more! I will take some pictures of it when I get a chance and PM them to you.

The camera is actually not far from the body of the car in the mount's current configuration, i'd venture to say only about 10 inches. I was using my 10mm pentax Fisheye, hence why it looks so far from the body. I am currently looking at getting an extension for it so that I could finally get the full frame in the shot.

The guy who let me borrow the mount is a photographer and art director for Primedia (he works primarily with sport compact car). Anywho, he has an exact same mount, only with a huge extension so that he can do shots like these

of course, he had to do a ton of photoshopping in order to take the mount out of view.

I'm going to experiment this weekend with the mount more. I'll definitely post some results.

I've been run off twice taking pics of my Acura. Once at a mall and once at a parking garage. But I always come back for more. We need to meet up at Clemson this yr. for some pics. (mini meet and a game).

Both of the color pictures have a slight color cast. The fist one towards yellow in the highlights, and the last image towards red in the highlights.

Does this, along with the levels, curves, and vignette, make the picture more interesting? Maybe, but it comes at a cost to realism and potentially turning off viewers. I would concentrate on slightly bettering the composition, especially in the last image, and combine that with your new PP minus the color adjustments.

My only other advice would be to watch the amount you bring down the shadows. While this helps to isolate your properly exposed subject, it can remove important compositional details and/or relationships between the subject and the scene.

Thanks for the cc. I've been manipulating the hues and saturation within the raw files to get a 'weathered' look and feel to my photos (lately) and to conjur a bit more emotion from the viewer. I'm not going for true color here, instead trying to paint my portraits with color and framing with shadows.
